Boko Haram insurgents have inflicted heavy casualties on troops of the Nigerian army, BBC is reporting.
The insurgents were said to have stormed the base of the soldiers in Kareto village in Borno state in large numbers.
Sani Usman, spokesman of the army, had earlier confirmed the attack, but refused to go into details.
The BBC quoted a soldier as saying the militants came with “heavy weapons which we didn’t have”.
A resident of Kareto said troops managed to regain control of the village with the support of fighter jets.
“Several of the militants were killed in the fighting which lasted for several hours,” the resident was quoted as saying.
Despite the claim of the government to have brought the sect under control, Boko Haram has continued to carry out different attacks.
Why Boko Haram no dey finish? What type of Otumorkpo do dey have?
*ezekwe*
There is no truth in the false story of Boko inflicting heavy casualties on Nigerian troops. There was an attempt by the remnants of Boko, thoroughly dislodged from Nigerian territory, to attack a military barrack and it was repulsed with heavy casualties on Boko. That the pitiable Wailers have now become Boko Fans Club members and forging fake stories and praying and fasting for Boko triumph does not in any way amount to success in their prayers. Both the wailers and Boko have been washed down to our forgettable chapters of the country's dark chapter we exited from last year.
