This is the most expensive typo of recent times. We are seeing and experiencing the real change promised – that of coming through the back door rather than the front. If you look at it, it is a real change if all of a sudden one now starts accessing his or her house through the backdoor.

 

The sad thing is their failure to invite my Emir to write a mathematical typo detection programme that would have filtered the budget for these kinds of N10 billion typos. Knowing my Emir, he would have proactively volunteered his services, if he for once suspected the presence of “clueless” personnel amongst the rank and file of the administration. The silence of many people on this issue is sure deafening.

 

Joe, did you miss the rumour going round that it was IMF Laggard, with the help of the CIA, that doctored the budget and inserted these N10 billion typos?

Hehehehe! I heard the rumour Bro John. And I verily believe it. ---that It was Jonathan and Okonjo Iweala that sent Laggard to Nigeria and after the visit the CIA 'hacked' into Aso Rock and inserted typos into the budget. Hehehehe!

Once I saw a budget item of N138 million for Aso Rock rent I knew it was the 'CIA that dunnit". Imagine renting Aso Rock. This country

Abba my brother. Nigerian presidents ( even governors) don't pay for anything. They are Govt pikins. Didn't start with PMB. 

The only problem is that Lagarde has 'hacked' the budget and provided unbelievable amounts for these utilities.

Hehehhehehehhehehe.   Yes, I will be happy to write such an algorithm for free (a constrained (genetic) error-detection optimization algorithm that shall have specificity and sensitivity of (or near) 100%)-:)))).   On a serious note, this budget brouhaha suggests to me that the folks at Aso Rock needed to spend a lot more time diligently going through the budget documents (line-by-line if necessary) to ensure that these errors are not included.

This is a serious matter that should not be trivialized

as fodder for jokes.

 

For a government that advertises and defines itself 

by its anti-corruption mission, I would think

it is probably too early for anyone to be trying to slip--

10 billion Naira--by under the nose of the budget scrutinisers

at the Budget office and the HOR committees even though anything is possible

in Nigeria. The crooks are always finding new ways to fleece our people.

Plug one hole and they contrive another one.

 

The source of the error, if in fact it is an error, should be promptly  identified

and those responsible for such a serious error should made accountable

for their poor performance.

 

It would be even a more serious matter, if the fraudulent insertion of a sum such a large

some of money was deliberate act--in which case it would be a criminal

matter that should be addressed by the appropriate agency.

 

How could anyone get away with hiding 10 billion Naira in budgetary submission?

 

Does the 10 billion Naira have budgetary line items attached to iy--specifying what it would be spent on?

 

Assuming the budget had passed without the inflated figures being detected,

how would such an amount be accounted for when the MDA submits

its reconciliation of income and expenses at the end of a financial year?

 

What we are facing in Nigeria is a hydra-headed problem--inclusive of pervasive

corrupt practices at all levels of the civil service as well as gross administrative inefficiencies.

 

We should be tackling both official corruption and administrative lapses and inefficiencies.

The Permanent Secretary and the Chief Accounting Officer at the Federal Ministry

of Education should be sanctioned for submitting a budget with such a gross error!

Illinois is doing fine without a budget. The people will not like it when Illinois finally comes up with a budget. The last time Illinois had a budget, the individual tax rate was 5%. Now it is 3.5% without a budget. Rumor has it that tax rate will go to 5%+ when the legislature approves the next budget. 

I don't know why Nigeria bothers with a budget. In fact I did not know that Nigeria ever had a budget. If you think Nigeria ever had a budget, show me where the $2.1 billion that Dasuki appropriated was shown on a budget? Show me where Sanusi's appropriations from CBN were listed in a budget?
