My Dear Ms. Binta:

We who are old, I was 75 on August 29, have seen a lot. We formed SADA as 501 C 3 Membership organization to promote Africa and Africans in 1970.  We sent you as a member 501 C 3 organization; membership or not for us to work together But the call fell on dead ears. You neither replied not called and you wrote "We Africans have no responsibilities toward the outcome? No action plan to prevent this type of horror from ever happening again? If our African leaders have nothing to say, how about we, in the Diaspora?  Don't  we value the lives of our people the way others do? It is about time we, in the Diaspora start practicing what is called a "Strategic Philanthropy. In 2012, we sent billions of dollars in remittances in Africa--more than the official development aid. We can do it! Enough is enough! We must start to be better organized and focused. " WHAT DO YOU THINK I OR WE SHOULD DO? Call me. 240-417-0299

Death toll of African migrants rises after boat disaster near Lampedusa

34 dead and at least 221 rescued by Italian and Maltese ships after boat capsizes in Mediterranean

The death toll from a boat laden with African migrants that capsized near the Italian island of Lampedusa has risen to 34 people.

An Italian navy spokesman, Marco Maccaroni, told the Associated Press that at least 221 people had been saved from the capsized vessel. Approximately 250 people are believed to have been on board.

Reacting to news of the disaster on Friday night, the Italian prime minister, Enrico Letta, reportedly said the latest deaths were a "new and stark confirmation" of how serious the situation in the Mediterranean is.

The shipwreck on Friday was the second recent tragedy in the waters where more than 300 migrants travelling from north Africa to southern Europe lost their lives on 3 October.

The official toll for that tragedy – in which a boat loaded with about 500 migrants caught fire and sank in one of the worst disasters to hit the area in recent years – rose to at least 339 on Friday .

Malta was co-ordinating the emergency response to the latest incident, with its ships and aircraft assisted by the Italian authorities. The more seriously injured among them were being flown by helicopter to Lampedusa.

Passengers on board the boat had been able to make an emergency call with a satellite phone which enabled rescuers to pinpoint their location, a spokesman for the Italian coastguard said.

The head of the Italian Red Cross said the latest deaths were yet more proof that urgent steps needed to be taken to open humanitarian corridors to protect migrant boats.

"Reading the news that is coming out about a new tragedy at sea, I feel anger and bitterness. There is a need for concrete action, as we have said repeatedly, more than words," said Francesco Rocca in a statement.

"This is the dramatic proof of everything we have been saying up to today: that we need to take urgent measures to open humanitarian corridors. There is no time to lose."

Even before the most recent disaster, it had become clear earlier on Friday that the potentially deadly perils of the crossing had not stopped the flow of migrants to Italian shores. The coastguard said that in five separate operations more than 500 migrants had been rescued in quick succession.

"This is not just another wake-up call for Europe. This is the time for action," the Maltese prime minister, Joseph Muscat said, adding he had spoken to Letta to discuss the latest disaster.

"This is a European problem, not a problem for Italy or Malta only."

Italy is asking for more EU support and an overhaul of the bloc's immigration rules after last week's shipwreck.

Dear Kofi,
You probably do not recall but I did respond to your email. Saying that "all roads lead to Timbucktu." Meaning that we can disagree on the road to take to achieve our goal which, in my view is the same just approaching it from different angles.
I am an action oriented person. You are working to unify Africa. I am working to have nationally and internationally recognized and enforceable land rights--property rights in Africa. they are not mutually exclusive.

So let's try. OK. I just tried your number, No answer.

Sister Binta,

this is your field and lane of responsibility, and you are doing well. You have declared that African leaders are not responding to the situation and that the EU said it is their problem. Now, please inform us of the best ways to respond - 1. Immediate strategy Conference call with those who are most caring and daring to serve all Africans; 2. Coordinate for action with Diaspora family in Europe to support this effort; 3. Pressure on the AU in WDC and beyond; 4. Donate financially to support best courses of action; 5. _________; Your efforts reminds of me of TransAfrica and other organizations when they were more effective before the Obama admin. Please respond!  Asante!

Thanks brother for your response. I was thinking of perhaps organizing a meeting Saturday next week. Topic will be on the "Strategic Philanthropy" this is something we can set-up right away and then, take it from there. Now, my emails are not reaching everyone on this list as I am part of their group list. Please do help me organize it. I will work on the venue if there is interest for it.
Together, we can do it.

I forgot to say that all of your suggestions are excellent. How about a conference call ? It is a shame that none of our leaders has yet to say a word on this horror. Then, those of us who can meet on can do so. The world must know that the African Diaspora in the states and Europe cares. Even if our leaders don't

I am receiving individual emails. Here's what I propose: for those who are interested in the idea of having a "strategic philanthropy". Please let me know when you are available to discuss.
I will set-up a conference call to inform on how I have thought it through and you can help fine tune it. This needs to be done and we will do it. The African Diaspora has the intellectual, technical and means to do this.
Someone just sent me an email to inform about what the Ford foundation is doing in Africa and suggested that I refer to what the Ford Foundation has done.
The thing is that, we can do better than any foundation in the world--that is, if we believe in ourselves, get better organized and remain altruistic and focused.
Please, just respond if you are in. I don't need to know at this stage what others are doing or have done.
Thanks.

Please, don't take offence. I am not discarding what you sent. Nor am I trying to reinvent the wheels. I rather hear you, what you think we should do than read these reports. You have read them. What do you see in them that we can benefit from? Don't give me additional work. Whether we realize it or not, accept it or not, we are all in this together. I am simply trying to do my part. OK.
So, are you in or not because this time, we are going to do this.
Cheers!

Otiti,My fellow countryman which is the language of broadcast for coups in Nigeria,I thank you for the honour of calling me an Inventor which has invented something useless for Strategic Phillantrophy. That is not suprising. Many will tell you that 75% of start-ups in Silicon Valley fail.Dr Yaya Fanusie is the Guru.
Ms B do not reinvent. Please innovate. This useless inventor called Ishola Williams is not useful to you.
I look forward to seeing you in Buenos Aires before July,2014 if plans work out.
Let all keep telling me what is wrong with me and my thoughts and ideas as you keep me on the learning curve.
I salute sir.iw

Ishola,
I am not a Guru. I am a knowledge worker  constantly looking for new knowledge so I can discard old knowledge. I like conducting  ideas experiments so I can tell which is useful for my purpose.  I also collaborate with others and give support to others as they try to help our people. many of us are very fortunate to be living in America and we enjoy daily life style and activities which many in Africa do not enjoy. What we enjoy here we must work to get our people in Africa to have access to such enjoyment. That  is why we should remove the impediments preventing such benefits. We can not allow anymore to have a governing Class and a Political class like the current ones. They have to go and the sooner the better.
We need to develop metrics as guidepost for successful results. We need to do impact analysis and evaluation to indicate if we should keep on same road or choose a different road.
Just keep an eye on us-2017 project and you will see how much progress we are making towards our goal attainment. Achieving Sustainable Economic Development in Africa is no different than a Conduct of Successful Military Operations- Strategy and Tactics, appropriate training and required resources you know what I am talking about; Right? The problem in Africa is that The Governing Class and Policy Makers are deficient in such framework.
Those in Charge in Africa are Ill-trained, Ill-equipped and Self-centered and Ignorant.
Yaya Fanusie, Special Operations Division
PS. Many on this forum and out side this place are just as incompetent as those in charge in Africa.

General. Apart form the different we may have, if you come to Buenos Aires, I will surely give you the due respect that Africans give to their elders. let me know before time, I may as I did for Gen. Hasan Kastina and Mohammed Rimi many years ago when they came to Argentina organize a small dinner with your colleague.
As the Chairman of the Nigerian Community in Argentina and Uruguay, I will possible rally about ten leaders of the community to a diner for a Senior Nigerian.
Meanwhile we continue to debate. Respect is given to older people. Your name sound Yoruba, I was born in Yorubaland and owe you the respect due to an elder.
