Okoi Obono Obla is appealing to sentiment, not to the law -- a more evidence of his incompetence in law (in the US, incompetence of the law is a ground for disbarment -- an incompetent lawyer can turn the entire judicial system into a crisis of indeterminable dire consequences). According to the Appeals court rules, all parties must appear for a reconciliation of all matters relating to an appeal, once notice of appeal is in process. NJC said that the FG's lawyers did not show up for this reconciliation, a charge that Okoi tacitly acknowledged.
By not showing up for the reconciliation, the FG was indirectly informing the Appeals court that it had withdrawn its notice of appeal. It is really dumb of Okoi to assert that the notice of appeal has not been struck out -- how does he know that? Even if it has not been formally struck out, the fact that FG ignored the reconciliation conference means that NJC's position is valid in law. Okoi and his incompetent colleagues cannot ignore a reconciliation conference and still expect the judges to bear the consequences of their incompetence or for the NJC to stand still waiting for when OKoi and company decides to be serious with their appeal. NJC's action is legally in line -- it cannot refuse to function just because Oki and his colleagues are slow and incompetent.
Okoi Obno Obla is an amateur lawyer whose utterances disgrace the judicial system. While I agree with his position that judges arrested for crimes, even though not yet found guilty, ought not to return to being in judgment over others, I must let him know that his and his colleagues incompetence of not showing up for the reconciliation conference, and of not prosecuting others not yet put on trial, allowed this return to the bench of this possibly corrupt judges/justices. It is unbecoming of any competent lawyer to want the career of judges ended simply because they are accused (not convicted) of corruption. Were Okoi and his colleagues competent, they would have prosecuted these judges with utmost speed. Okoi and his colleagues cannot have it both ways -- show shameful dereliction of their duties and then expect punitive action on folks not yet convicted of any crime.
Incompetence is one of the baggage weighing down the Buhari presidency. Okoi Obono Obla is at the apex of this mediocrity and incompetence.
Nebukadineze Adiele

The statement by the NJC today 10 June 2017 that there is no valid appeal against the ruling delivered by Justice Jude Okeke of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory , Abuja dated 5 April 2017 discharging and acquitting Justice AFA Ademola and two others of corruption charges is misleading . On the contrary there is a valid and subsisting appeal against the ruining of Justice Okeke. The Ruling appealed against was delivered on 5 April 2017 . We filed Notice of Appeal on the 7 April 2017. The law gives us 90 days to file Notice of Appeal from the date of delivery of the ruling . We also filed additional grounds of Appeal on the 6 June 2017 . The period for us to comply records will start to run from the 7 June 2017 to expire on the 8 August 2017 . However the court of Appeal invited both parties to attend court on the same 6 June 2017 to reconcile records of Appeal . As long as the Notice of Appeal has not been struck out the Appeal is valid and pending . Is the NJC now defense counsel to Justice Ademola? Why is NJC descending into the arena ? Is the NJC not suppose to be neutral ? A judge that has been arrested , interrogated , release on bail , docked and tried for corruption has lost the credibility, integrity and moral authority to be a judge ! He should leave the bench in the interest of the integrity of the judiciary .

General Williams,
Should a law officer in his position and one that has knowledge of the law be making this kind of statement:
“A judge that has been arrested , interrogated , release on bail , docked and tried for corruption has lost the credibility, integrity and moral authority to be a judge ! He should leave the bench in the interest of the integrity of the judiciary”
The judge was arrested, interrogated, released on bail, docked and tried for corruption, and only for this should he “leave the bench in the interest of the integrity of the judiciary” when he has not been pronounced guilty. If Obla holds steadfastly to his pronouncements on this issue, there is every reason to believe what many have alleged to be the case in the first place – that the prosecution was nothing other than a witch hunt. The question is this, would mere stepping down satisfy and redeem the accused? Would mere stepping down be sufficient to atone for his alleged corruption? History is yet to be written, when the time comes, it would be shown that the Justices stood up to the rascality of the executive for successfully resisting attempts to politicise the judiciary. What is the difference between what a supposedly sound legal mind, who is a prosecution adviser to the president had just said and those that put tyre round the neck of a suspect, whose suspicion only came about by someone shouting ole, pouring petrol and burning him or her to death? My General, if you find comfort in the argument of our law officer, am afraid, I do not.
My regards,
OJ

OJ,Haba,Give OOO some respect as a Professional.Did you read his reply to NJC? Does that response demonstrate his scant knowledge of the law?
If it that is the case, then come up with your own legal argument.
From the Layman's point of view,he has a convincing argument against the rebuttal from NJC Spokesperson.Professional assessment of another must apolitical.iw

A judge must be above any modicum of suspicion; scrupulously clean , indeed as clean as steel ! A judge must be like Caesar 'a wife . I call on NJC to recommend to Mr President the dismissal and retirement of all judges that have been arrested and questioned by law enforcement agencies ! Also all judges standing trial must suffer the same fate including the one that was tried and acquitted .
