How plauiblse is it that Buhari would on;ly win 15,000 + in Enugu state
against 550000 ) for GEJ--that is about 96% to 4% in favour of GEJ.

Dr Kasim,
There we go again. Igbo man the bogey man. The root of all Nigeria's problems.

Either INEC card readers stopped rigging or it did not. Abi it stopped rigging every where except in Enugu?

You are wittingly or unwittingly setting up the average "inyanmirin" going about his business in the North to become a fall guy in the event Buhari loses.

Have you seen how many votes Buhari won in Katsina?

Joe

Ikenna:

Vin O is hanging on to the illusory last chance hope that all the electoral manipulations
carried out during and after the elections in SS and the SE would be sufficient
to deny Buhari not only the 25% in 24 states but also that when
the votes in some SS and SE states are inflated for GEJ so that
they mirroe the massive majorities GEJ is expected to get in the core North,

How plauiblse is it that Buhari would on;ly win 15,000 + in Enugu state
against 550000 ) for GEJ--that is about 96% to 4% in favour of GEJ.

But I doubt if these aalleged manipulations swill be enough to stop
Buhari's train to ultimate electoral victory!

My projection is on state by state basis. But honestly,  there are some states that are too close to call. So, I can't make any projections in those states.  But you know the thing that can surprise people in this election is what if no candidate meet the constitutional provision. The Constitution require a winner to win at least 25% in two-thirds of the state's (that is 24 states) and also have simple majority of the votes cast. What if a candidate is able to get the simple majority of the votes cast but didn't get the two-thirds? What happens if a candidate win the two-thirds of the state's but didn't get the simple majority? Who will INEC declare the winner in these instances? Either way,  I think this election will go to the courts.

Chief Vincent,

To meet this REQUIREMENTS of at least 25% in 2/3 of the states is not too difficult WITH MEGA PARTIES LIKE PDP AND APC. Take for example as uncommon as APC is in the SOUTH EAST AND SOUTH - SOUTH, they are picking their 25% in IMO, EDO, AND RIVERS, plus all the 6 WESTERN STATES, plus all the 19 northern states totaling = 28 states, so you can see that they have OVER SHOT THE 24  REQUIREMENT.

The surprises are the GREAT INROADS MADE BY APC IN NIGER AND JIGAWA and you can recall also that these are two states that ought to have joined in the OPPOSITION GOVERNORS but they later returned. SO AMAECHI AND ROCHAS WILL BE POPPING CHAMPAGNE WHEREVER THEY ARE NOW, as it looks MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. ANOTHER SURPRISE IS THE LOSS OF NASARAWA TO PDP, when LABARAN MAKU is in APGA. It should have been APC.

And to crown it all, THE OBSERVER MISSIONS BOTH ECOWAS, OAU, EU, UNITED NATIONS all said that the TURN OUT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE AND THAT THE ELECTION WAS VERY PEACEFUL. So rigging is almost ruled out ON BOTH PARTIES.

Thanks and kind regards,

Ikenna.

This election is OPA (Other People's Affairs), let's  not bloody ourselves over it. It's not worth it.
Whatever the outcome, we have survived worse. It's all good.

So please be guided on my stand. I just asked APC supporters if they can JUBILIATE does not mean that I support them. That GEJ wins does not mean I support PDP. I am a VERY NEUTRAL MAN but you are a PDP supporter.

Massive rigging took place in Anambra State

Pastor Joe:

I will never set up a fellow Nigerian so something
benignly negative happens to him or her
not to mention endanger his or her life.

I was not implying rigging at the polling station.

There are allegations of some funny things going
that transpired durig an or after the elections  in the SS and in some SE states relating
to the following:

***Rivers state--where eligible voters from APC strongholds were
prevented from voting--including Dr Rotimi Amaech himself

***Imo state--where Gov Okorochas was being disdaingfully stared
down by a soldier even as voters from APC strongholds were prevented
from voting by military officers across his state--and even though as Gov
he is supposed to be the Chief Security Officer of his state.

***Akwa Ibom state where final collation of election results were allegedly being done
at the Gov's mansion.

All the above remain will remain nothing more than allageations until
they are fully investigated.

There of course many cases of electoral malpractices that took place
across in almost every other state in Nigeria--including those already reported
and those that are yet to surface,

Some of us may not be on the ground in Nigeria but we are in touch 24/7 365 days a year.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are ongoing machinations
in the PDP camp to do all they can to prevent Buhari from reaching
the 25% in 24 states threshold required to win the elections even after
he aould have won a simple majority of the votes cast nationwide.

I doubt if such machinations will succeed!

Bye,

Ola

Wharfy:

I have been called worse names--but

I will continue to tell the truth however unpalatable they might sound

In order to build a strong and vibrant nation all Nigerians
must eschew ethnic and religious bigotry.

No Nigerian chose his or her parents who in turn did not chose

Vin,

Don't belittle a victory well deserved by Buhari and APC. One hopes PDP will be able to show evidence of rigging by APC the way APC showed videos of rigging by PDP in 2011. That said, you should be man enough to agree that this election was won by APC/Buhari. It could never have been won by PDP/Jonathan. The way Nigerians trooped out to vote was a confirmation of their having been tired of PDP/Jonathan. That opposition parties were able to merge at all and stood together throughout was also an indication of Nigerians being tired of PDP administrations since 1999. The last time Nigerians trooped out and stood in the sun for hours to vote like they did over the weekend was in 1993 when they were tired of the military and did not even care about MKO's Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Taking cognizance of the fact that there can never be 100% perfect election, the international observers' report so far is that the election was free and fair. If the results being announced in Abuja were signed by party agents at local levels, the results should be credible. The option of election tribunal is always there though. It is part of the process.

Among Jonathan's supporters, only men that are men, and women that are women will agree that this election's result (despite the technical hitches and logistic problems) represented the wishes of majority of Nigerians. That is why my respect goes to Senate President Davis Mark who earlier today said he would not waste time and money at the election tribunal if the result of the election does not favor him. That statement was an evidence that David Mark was satisfied that the election was free, fair and credible.

Canice Onuoha,

Because you have a snake brain, you cannot understand that Ola was commenting on what was available as of the time of his comment. Since Jonathan is not from Enugu state or from SE, it makes sense to wonder how he could get 96% of the votes cast in Enugu state. This is only an academic exercise though as the figure is what it is unless there is evidence to the contrary.

Buhari won -  no buts, ifs. The hotly contested election has its up-side on democracy - regardless of the plays, which are inherent in opposition politics. I am  wrapping up with Western  spectators and speculators on African Affairs - as we monitored the returns from known and unofficial channels. When 3/4 of the votes came in, the Fat Lady Sang.  I offered fried plantains,  soya or suya, and assorted drinks from Africa. I don't know whether all these were duty free - say AGOA....LOL.

Wellu, wellu, Africa proved that on this, she needed no lecture on conducting credible elections. The calamitous projection from the Western and jaundiced  press is not going to happen.

We must move on and wish Buhari God's speed in  governing, including tackling to erase Boko Haram.

The life of each Nigerian and the sanctity of peace are more important than an election cycle. The national tasks ahead are more crucial. The polity cannot be over heated to embittered ends. Nigeria  is too pivotal in African Affairs to let the sentiments of our preferences overshadow the greater good. I am proud of  SouthEastern  and the South-South States for holding to principles and convictions.  The Ekiti Exceptionality, this smooch is for you! lol. Don't fear....retribution in SW.  Buha will not lock up anyone for dissing him.

See some of you on April 17 at the US Congress - Leveraging Africa Diaspora Capital for Development. Buhari will also need that.... as all African governments....lol.

Results from 5 states in the South South --Rivers (1.5 Million), Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Bayelsa are yet to be released. We are talking of at least 6 Million votes in Jonathan's stronghold, so go figure.

Please keep up the hope until the final results are announced tomorrow.
As Abba as pointed out are more than enough votes from states in the North
to neutralize all the vote margins
both legitimate and illegeitimate, that GEJ would have accumulated in
Rivers, Cross River, Edo and Delta states.

Bayelsa results were announced earlier today.

After the elections Patience Jonathan would have to explain
who she collected all the original election results from all polling
stations n Port harcourt before the start of the elections.
Only photocopies were made available at all the polling stations
in violation of INEC guidelines which stipulate that on;y original
results sheets are acceptable,\.

Ms Joe,

Don't mind Collins. The election is won and lost already. What INEC announces in Abuja is what has already been announced at local government and state levels by local INEC. That is why the overall winner is known already. We are only waiting for a formal declaration. As human beings we always ask for miracle to change what we don't like. That is why Collins is expecting a miracle to change what is obvious.

Democracy indeed- voting in Nigeria still very regional. A very divided country indeed. Voting results not based on substance or policies. African democracies still have a long way to go.

I know you lack critical thinking ability but I have a question for you?

Explain to me how Buhari managed to get 98% from Jigawa? How about Kano where it is close to  99%?  Is Buhari from the above 2 states?

You see Ayo you are too stupid to participate in conversations with me.

Canice Onuoha, the stupid boy,

How can a human brain discuss with a snake brain?

Let me repeat for your small brain: Ola was commenting on what was available as of the time of his comment. Jigawa and Kano results were not available then. It was no more a surprise seeing similar results from Kano and Jigawa. If you still don't get it, we will need to smash the stupid snake's head to pump this information into it.

Huh?

He posted well before the elections that he was going to be on an important national assignment during this period; I believe someone (Imperial) also forwarded something from him earlier.....no need to fly the VC blackmail kite.

If he is on national assignment, myself is on international assignment and yet I still blog here.

Oga Daviloani,

No need to vex now. OK, so you are on an international assignment and still have time to blog. Good. VC is on a national assignment that I can guarantee you leaves no time to blog. :-)

I guess he will blog when he concludes his national assignment, maybe he can supply the charts and dashboards then.

My brother, the good doctor:

I will fight a real fight and I don't shy away from a principled stand. But it would be totally irresponsible for me to engage in embittering and emotional gymnastics after the fight is over  - as the election is.

I am on the side of Nigeria and, by extension, Africa. Whoever emerges can benefit from our collective interest to see Nigeria move to better heights, which actualizes and unleashes the vast  potential of our Continent. If my candidate, Jonathan, does not win, that is okay. Whatever the lesson, it can be learnt. I am proud of the valiant stand of SE. My heart may be pained but it does not affect my mind or my head - to think straight.  Congenitally, I am a happy person, an optimist, and  I love to laugh at the yeye follies of humankind - mine and others'.

Don't forget to bring me some home delicacies when you come back. You can also sue Ola while there....lol.

God bless,
MsJoe

Prof:

I adjusted for the ratio of non-indigenes of Kano and Jigawa who voted for Jonathan in those two states. When I applied the same adjustment to Enugu the numerical value was minimum.

Jonathan got about 10% of the Kano votes (not the 1% you stated) and about 14% of the Jigawa votes (not  the 2% you stated)...check the figures again, my friend.

Oh okay; but I think it is really difficult to know (for sure) who, among the non-indigenes, voted for which candidate.  The people of Kano and Jigawa really wanted to make a statement....I do not recall a single time in our history when people desperately wanted a change (and withstood all adversities to ensure that they actually voted).  Buhari was always very well loved in Kano...and Kano Governor (Kwankwaso) is equally very well loved...so, between the two of them, it is not difficult to see how GMB can easily muster such huge numbers in Kano.  Ditto in Jigawa too.

The title above is wrong and should have read Buhari leads in an early count. later today the results will be called and I bet anyone that the title will not be the above but Jonathan Re-elected with a close margin in a heavily contested election.

Ditto in Jigawa.

It is either Gov. Suleman Lamido either fooled Jonathan or Jonathan must be blind to make Jigawa the coordinator of his NW campaign team.  Poor Jonathan,  he did more for North than he did for South, yet nothing to show for it in Election gain. Tufiakwa.

If Buhari wins, he has the mandate to do whatever his soul desires. Why? What is it that he can do now that you did not know he was capable of when you elected him? If he wants Sharia, for example, why can't he have sharia instituted?

Once the results are called we Nigerians need to stand by the winner -- whether we supported him or not---to move Nigeria forward. That is how democracy works.

In four years there will be another opportunity to choose.

Democracy indeed- voting in Nigeria still very regional. A very divided country indeed. Voting results not based on substance or policies. African democracies still have a long way to go.

YF<INEC is under Pressure and being watched very closely.Slow and Steady wins the race.He has to do so before midnight today.
Any party or person that disagrees can head for the tribunal.
On the other hand,he has set up a Panel to look into many of the petitions.
In spite of all the efforts, many Nigerian Crooks for monetary benefits and otherwise aided and abetted by Governors and Electoral Officers still allow inexplicable rigging.
We are really a nation without a national integrity architecture.iw

Thanks; Ishola. Is the allegations of rigging from the APC ZONES? How can the opposition rig the election?  Many if not all of African Presidents have mental issues. You know you have not done much for the majority so why do you think they would vote for you? very simple.

The title above is wrong and should have read Buhari leads in an early count. later today the results will be called and I bet anyone that the title will not be the above but Jonathan Re-elected with a close margin in a heavily contested election.

You are demagoguing right about now on this topic. Let me ask a question: do you agree that your fellow general, Olusegun Obasanjo is corrupt? Now if I ask what evidence do you have? If it quacks like a duck and waddle like a duck then it is a damn duck. No evidence necessary. Yours below resembles one of Prof. Adeboye who is always asking for references and evidence when it is one of his own but quick to characterize others.

"..Poor Jonathan, he did more for North than he did for South, yet nothing to show for it in Election gain" {Vin}

Hmm. And yet the South dumped pretty much all of their votes into his ballot box. Seems to underscore the belief(many would arguably say fact) that most people in the South act out of emotions. Not good.  Actually quite concerning. Same emotions that was used to lure them into useless and unnecessary war. I do hope that if this election results turn out to be what most of us now believe and hope for, the South, (Igbos in particular), would begin the process of getting out of the emotional "box" they have put themselves in for decades (centuries) so as to see the good in other Nigerians and thus work together to allow them and subsequent generations of Igbos to see themselves as an equal part of our great nation.  If on the other hand, the South continues to fight the war that was lost (as many in southern USA have done since the civil war that ended in over a century ago), then they, the Igbos in particular, will continue to search for identity, continue to self-destruct and more sadly, continue to subjugate each other while the rest of the country moves on! Afterall even today, 21st Century, pretty much all states in the Southern USA are lacking in all measures of good life all because they have refused to accept the defeat from the war they started (war to protect their buying and selling other human beings!) and thus get out of the "box" of hatred, jim crow and similar activities that hold them and only them hostage! That we Igbos in particular have refused to see the dangers in such self-imposition is mind boggling. One would have hoped that we "younger" generations of Igbos would have seen how the actions of our forebears have put us in this subjugated state and thus reject them all with impunity so as to free ourselves from the pangs of such "box" and thus move forward, tapping into our immense ingenuity and working with others to make our states and the nation great. Rather, we seem to have perfected in many of the things that have held us back and down. Not good! Time to park emotions and think!

You are very ignorant and you don't even know what you're saying. In the first republic,  it is the Igbo and the North that formed the First Republic.  In the Second Republic, it was the same Igbo and the North. When Obasanjo was President,  Ndi Igbo were involved. Same with Yar'Adua and Jonathan. The problem this time is Jonathan was abandoned by those he trusted in the North and West despite doing a lot for these regions. So you see that you're ignorant. Take a state like Ondo for example,  I expected Jonathan to win that state.

Tufiakwa.

Vin Otuonye, you are the ignorant one.
Jonathan did nothing for Ondo people. He gave bribes to Mimiko and gang of looters, to pass on "ajeku" to paupers like Rasaq Oladosu for thuggery purposes.
That kind of "doing" is not for the "service" we clamor for.

 Vin,

You are right to write that Jonathan did more for the Northern part of the country than for the Southern part. On the other hand you are dead wrong to assert that the vote Jonathan received from Southern Nigerians specifically eastern part of Nigeria was based on emotions. The pattern of voting in Nigeria for the most part in any election has always been through ethnic, regional and religious lenses. This election followed the same pattern with the exception that the Southwest decided to vote for Buhari due to Osinbajo and Tinubu. This is the first election in Nigeria's history since 1979 and I may say since independence that the South-West voted in mass for a Northern candidate. I believe that the South West saw APC as their party where their interest lies. If Jonathan had won most states in the South West, he would have won this election. That is the difference and not the voting based on emotions that you characterized it to be. It is easy to argue that the Yorubas are more politically mature than other ethnic groups in Nigeria. As far as I can remember, they always vote their interest and not necessarily the national interest. Remember that they did not support Obasanjo in 1999 regardless of the fact that he is a Yoruba man and was running against another Yoruba man who they consider at the time to have Yoruba interest at heart. In 1999, if the South East and South South South had voted for Falaye, Obasanjo would not have been president but they chose to go with the candidate of the North in the person of Obasanjo. In supporting Jonathan, the Igbos and other ethnic groups in the former eastern Nigeria were trying to play the same game as the Yorubas by supporting someone from the eastern region. I believe that their support in part was based on regional interest and to some extent their believe that they have equity in PDP. On the other hand, most Yorubas do not believe that they have equity in PDP. It is equally interesting to note that the Yorubas always gravitate to the concept of a single point political leader for their region. They have not had that sisnce Awolowo died and now it appears they have found that in the person of Tinubu. Since the current political dispensation 16 years ago, any political party that Tinubu has his in print has carried the Southwest zone. Four years ago, Tinubu abandoned his parties presidential candidate at the last minute and supported Jonathan indirectly which led to the trashing of Ribadu by Jonathan at the polls in the South West. If he had not done that, Jonathan would have won but the margin of defeat would have marginal in the zone. The Yorubas can equally say that the eastern region had always backed Northern candidates in most elections against the South West candidates. If Jonathan had been a student of history, he would not be in the position that he found himself in this election. If he had understood that Nigeria's political game is still being played on ethnic, religious and regional lines, may be he would have included many more South Westerners  in his administration and did more viable projects in the South South and South East as he did in the North. If he looses, then it is Buhari's turn to take the baton and see where he and his party can take Nigeria to. May be it is providence for him and Nigeria, who knows.

Folks:

If Buhari's ascendancy to the Presidency can reduce corruption by a mere 10-15 per cent, then his election may after all worth all the efforts.  The irony and sadness in all of this is that the joy of first electing the person from a minority ethnic group as president ended in disaster is regrettable. It would have been nice if it were not so.  I continue to ask, how did a man like Goodluck Jonathan rise to the important position of the President of Nigeria? He obviously is clueless; ill-prepared; ill-suited for the office. His educational background is questionable. He lacks charisma. He speaks poorly. His diction is horrible. He could not read and deliver what had been written for him. His appearance on the world stage lacks sophistication. Overall, it as an understatement to say that he is weak and very incompetent. Thus, with his inadequacies, Jonathan can never grow on the job even if he spends 20 years on the exalted position of President of Nigeria.  He is that bad.  I hope he leaves quietly. He will be doing Nigeria and Nigerians a lot of good by not challenging the results of the election.

The only sensible thing you said is contained in the first statement in your email. All others is you just trying to play mischief. Now, on the things you said Jonathan is not good at - his speech, his diction, etc., compare him with his challenger, Buhari and see who fare better.

Honestly, I doubt if some of you see any joy in electing Jonathan from the minority ethnic group. So stop this boju boju of "The irony and sadness in all of this is that the joy of first electing the person from a minority ethnic group as president ended in disaster is regrettable". Some of you took offense that he is even elected to be President of Nigeria to begin with.

The irony and sadness of a President from the minority ethnic group my foot! If Jonathan had taken a page from Obasanjo's book and deal severly with his political opponents and spread his tentacles everywhere, nobody will be talking about the irony and sadness of a President from minority ethnic group. Cool Breeze,

So, now, it is Yoruba that betrayed Jonathan, and not Jonathan that betrayed the Yoruba that voted for him in 2011?

And why exactly do you think Jonathan should have won Ondo state? I told you months ago that that was not the reality on ground, but you seem to be listening to the same people Jonathan is listening to. I gave you an example of my town in Ondo, which Mimiko and Jonathan are stringing along with the promise of a polytechnic. This polytechnic was supposedly approved two years ago, yet there is not a single cinder block to show for it. Whereas the sister polytechnic in Akwa Ibom that was approved the same day is already operational with magnificent structures to show! Really? And here is the kicker, the polytechnic is ALWAYS listed as one of Jonathan's achievements!!!! C'mon, where is the humanity?

And, that is just ONE issue in ONE local government that was traditionally PDP in ONDO state. I can give you a catalogue of issues in the other 17 local governments in the state.

So, abeg, understand the issues before you start sitting in judgment of other people. Yoruba people made a choice, simple. Yoruba are not emotional hostages.

You perform, you get rewarded. You don't perform, you get rewarded. Jonathan just got rewarded.

Folks:

I am trying to make sense out of this quote from Joe Onuora.  This is heavy stuff:

"....so as to see the good in other Nigerians"  Joe Onuora
I hope Mr. Onuora read Eke's earlier posting of today about generalizations.

"....to allow them and subsequent generations of Igbos to see themselves as an equal part of our great nation."  - Joe Onuora.

There is an Igbo proverb which says that a man who claims that there are seven Gods is yet to finish what he started to say.

Is Mr. Onuora suggesting that the Igbos have been looking at themselves as inferiors to other parts of Nigeria?  He should finish what he started to say and give examples of it - perhaps because the Igbos have dominated the leadership or presidency of Nigeria for years?

Ejikwem ogu o.  It is often amazing how the opinion of one man becomes the opinion of all the people, and the behavior of a few becomes the behavior of all.  It is a case of minority becoming the majority.  My dad used to say that in the home of a rich man, you can find all sorts of characters - Reverends, pagans, prostitutes, thieves, and even philanthropists - all because of either sibling rivalry or because he married several wives from families of different upbringing.  I liken the Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas, and other tribes in Nigeria to the rich man's family with all sorts of characters.  Anyone who does not understand this this dynamics is either not from a large family or has no children which would have enabled him or her to observe this family competition.  Broad brushing in the church can be hurtful to the choir and the congregation.  That "counterfeit currency" which you saw in my pocket is also in your pocket.

.  I continue to ask, how did a man like Goodluck Jonathan rise to the important position of the President of Nigeria?” Dipo Eniola

Dipo Eniola:

Your above question and its corollaries should be directed to your uncle Obasanjo who, believing Jonathan would be his puppet whereby, he Obasanjo would be indirectly in-charge of determining after he left office who and which sections of Nigeria gets what, when and how foisted Jonathan on Nigeria. His self-serving agenda backfired and he turned against the man he had foolishly believed would be his puppet President.

His other reason was to spite the people of the South-East to prove that a southern minority served as President before an Igbo President of Nigeria. You know Obasanjo, like most of you his Yoruba ethnic members are jealous of the Igbo and his can-do prowess. I wish that Jonathan had governed like a real Ijaw man, with no nonsense attitude to guarantee his elected two terms in office. And I hope other South-South ethnic nations have witnessed your usual Yoruba betrayal and political chicanery against their son, a first minority elected President of Nigeria.

If President Jonathan’s Presidency “ended in disaster” as you stated, it is because the Yorubas of your kind wished him and his fellow Ijaws such ending. And such indeed, “is regrettable”. Now, you folks of the SW should declare owambe and dance to your heart’s desired content. For a Nigerian like me, it is not what happens now in this election that worries me. It is the day after. Vin Otuonye aka Pretty Boy from Orlu:

Come on, pretty boy, stope hyper-ventilating. You forgot that Yoruba led the fight for him to become the President after the demise of Shehu Y’ara Dua when some Shehu's men were playing useless games with the line of succession. You forgot that GEJ swept all Yoruba States except Osun State during his first contest for the presidency.  Pretty boy, are you saying they did not know his heritage when they voted massively for him in 2011?  Fair is fair.  I think you have spent enough time in cyberspace during this election season. Now, it is time to go back to what you do best, and that is, making yourself looking good and pretty. Now, it is time for you to hit the beauty parlor.

And I hope you know what that means.

Cheers.

Subject: The irony and sadness of a president from minority ethnic group

I laugh.  It is a free country man.  There is even another one about to assume office with limited or no advanced education.  Buhari might have good intensions, but this is not the military where you obey the last order.  I hope our educated legislators and technocrats will not take advantage of his short comings.  For now, there is nothing to do but rally the country around duly elected President once he is declared the winner.

That is the spirit of democracy.
