Howdy folks in Android land!

Will there be official Java9 support in Android next release? Or will their focus be much more towards Kotlin?

Thx,

Probably nothing in Java 9 for the next version, but Android's Java implementation switched to OpenJDK a release or two back so it is always possible though.  However most of the apis won't be available in versions of Android before p. Language changes at the compiler level might be available as long as they don't need any new library support.

Kotlin on Android has the same limitations as Java 9 does so other than spending a lot of time catching up the samples, docs, and tooling we probably won't see anything specific to it.

Thx,

Actually everyone can start with Kotlin right away. Java/Kotlin are intermixable in both ways. If we create SDK in Java, it would be nice at least to add nullablity annotations and make it consumable from Kotlin without problems.
