Dear Ads Script Team,

we set up the Low SKU Script.
We set it up with the Filter impressions = 0 as we wanted to know which SKUs get 0 impressions.

The sheets shows no results, zero SKUs
But when we set up the same report within the reporting section within the interface, we get some SKUs with 0 impressions.

So of coz I am wondering: which of the reports is correct? Do we have items with 0 impressions or don't we? And if, how many?

With in this sheet there are as well the info about CID, Script name and User.

Its the Tab "DEimpr"

Hi Maren,

Thanks for reaching out. Harry here, from the Google Ads Scripts Team.

Unfortunately, I was not able to access the spreadsheet through the link you have provided so would you mind enabling sharing instead or attach a local file copy of the sheet so I can take a look? You can privately provide this via the reply to author option. It would also be great if you can specifically provide your CID and script name for certainty.

@Francisco: Please do let me know how I can be of assistance. However, I would appreciate it if you can open up a new thread instead for better tracking of issues on our end.

Thanks,

Hi Maren,

Thanks for providing the requested details. Could you try making a new copy of the script or have a colleague create the same script and see if you still would encounter the same issue? I can then raise this to our wider team instead for further investigation.

Let me know how it goes.

Dear Harry,

I set up this script in different accounts.
I set it up with a different user in the account I shared.

It's the same result: with the report center I get item IDs with 0 impressions, with the script I get none or fewer as in report center.

Hi Maren,

Thanks for trying that out. Allow me to raise this to our wider team for further investigation and keep you updated accordingly. Let me know how I can assist you in the meantime.

Hi Script Team,

any update ?
I saw that in the documentation for the AdWords API it's written that Impressions arn't supported: https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/reports/shopping-performance-report#impressions

Might this be the reason why we get 0 Items when we filter for Impressions = 0?
But still there is the question why the number of Items is different from the script and from the report center.

Hi Maren,

Thanks for following up here but there are still no updates in the issue. Would you be able to provide a link or screenshot of the information stating that Impressions are not supported in the Shopping Performance Report so I can share that back to the team?

Hi Harry,

Well, actually, a kind of colleague of yours mentioned this (see picture):
"About the case when you filter 'impressions = 0': This is down to the known issue that the API doesn't support zero-impressions."
But he suggested as well to reach out to you.

In my understanding the AdWords API mentioned in that link isn't the same as  the one the script is using for the shopping performance report. But I am not sure if this is correct.

Hi,

This is Yasmin from the Google Ads scripts team.

Just circling back here, could you please confirm if you are still encountering the issue or are still in need of assistance with this?

If yes, kindly note that, currently, the Google Ads scripts infrastructure is based on the Google Ads API. Since the new experience uses Google Ads API reporting, by default, it omits rows with zero impressions. This script has a filter set at the top of the script that specifies only rows with 0 impressions are included. I would recommend testing by removing this filter (or increasing the number it checks impressions for) and checking against a similar report in the Ads UI. You may check this link from the Google Ads API documentation on zero metrics for more information.

I've migrated the script basing from your script 'Zombie' which you can see in the attachments. Let us know if we can assist you with anything else.

Regards,

Just confirm that the script you have designed is useless now. There is no possiblity to get in the report SKUs with zero clicks/impressions.
You have destroyed it with "the new Google Ads API experience".

Hi Mat,

Thank you for providing your insights on this, however, kindly do note that the new Google Ads scripts infrastructure is based on the Google Ads API. As per the documentation on Zero Metrics from the Google Ads API documentation here, Google Ads API reporting automatically excludes zero impression rows when a report is segmented.

On that note, if you would like to identify rows for an offer ID with 0 clicks and 0 impressions, you will need to add another metric in your query (e.g conversion). You may check the sample query here. Again, rows whose selected metrics are all zero won't be returned.

Let us know if you have any other concerns or clarifications.

Best regards,

Martina Strohn

Hi everyone,

I am running into the same problem.

I just can't understand why it is not possible to see the performance of low performing products (in this case: products with 0 impressions/clicks) in the shopping_PERFORMANCE_view... I just do not get it. I mean of course i understand the technical reasons but it makes no sense for everybody who needs to work with that data.

And Yasmin, could you please explain how your suggestion should work. Adding the conversion metric, which can't be 0...
How would that be possible, when the product has 0 impressions and/or 0 clicks? Is there a metric which is never 0?

Or is there any other workaround, that actually works?

Thanks + best,
Martina

Hi Martina,

Kindly see my insights to your concerns below:

  • I just can't understand why it is not possible to see the performance of low performing products (in this case: products with 0 impressions/clicks) in the shopping_PERFORMANCE_view... I just do not get it. I mean of course i understand the technical reasons but it makes no sense for everybody who needs to work with that data.

Please do note that, in general, the Google Ads API does not support zero metrics and is not just observed within the shopping_performance_view report type. If you'd have any further concerns with regard to the Google Ads API's behaviour, I'm afraid that our team would be unable to further comment on it as we're only able to provide our assistance to Google Ads Scripts technical concerns (e.g issues when implementing scripts). With this, I would recommend reaching out to the Google Ads API support team by posting on the Google Ads API Forum so that you may be able to receive insights as to why zero metrics are not supported.

  • Could you please explain how your suggestion should work. How would that be possible, when the product has 0 impressions and/or 0 clicks? Is there a metric which is never 0?

You will need to add another metric in your query. Again, you may refer to this guide on how you may do this with your report. You may check the table of your products from your Google Ads account's interface in order to identify metrics which do not have a zero value. From that, you may utilize it as a metric in your query in order to retrieve those products containing zero clicks and impressions, but it would be intended behavior that the product you're aiming to retrieve to not be returned in your report even if you have included other metrics as long as those other metrics also have zero values.

On that note, since it appears that your concern is more on Google Ads API reports rather than anything specific to the implementation of scripts, I would recommend that you instead reach out to the Google Ads API Forum for further assistance as they would be better equipped to address your concern.

Best regards,

Hi there,

thank you for your explanations.
I might have gotten a bit emotinal, sorry for that. The Google Ads API restrictions are just bit frustrating every once in a while...

For everybody who want's the ZOMBIE-script get running again, this is my solution:
Instead of writing the products with 0 clicks into the spreadsheet, I write products with >0 clicks in the spreadsheet. Then I change the rule in the merchant center from "has value" to "has no value". That should to the work...

Best regards,
Martina
