About Adding Image Extension to Group

Hello,
We can add an image extension to the campaign at https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/samples/add-image-extension. But why can't we add an image extension to the group?
Can you help me?

For example like this:
$adGroupExtensionSetting = new AdGroupExtensionSetting([
'ad_group' => ResourceNames::forAdGroup($customerId, $ads_id),
'extension_type' => ExtensionType::IMAGE,
'extension_feed_items' => [$extensionFeedItemResourceName]
]);

After reviewing your concern, I understand that you want to add an image extension to the Ad group. 

Please be informed that you can only add image extensions to campaigns, not ad groups. This is because image extensions are designed to be displayed alongside your campaign's text ads, and they are not relevant to individual ad groups.

Google Ads API Team,

In the Google Ads web interface, it is possible to add Images to Ad Groups.  So would it not be true that adding an "image extension" to an Ad Group would be accomplished by adding an Asset of AssetType "Image"?  In other words, aren't Image Extensions essentially deprecated and replaced by Image Assets?
