Frequent time outs while accessing Adwords APIs

Hi Team,

I've been working on the project which uses Adwords APIs to create the campaigns, Ad groups etc. since last few weeks.  Today, I got multiple timeout errors when accessing the APIs from the code. Budget, Campaign and Adgroup APIs were mostly failing due to timeout issues.

I am using v201809 APIs.

Could you please let me know if there are any changes required in the code/API version level to resolve this issue?

Could you provide screenshots and the complete SOAP request and response logs when you encountered the error so I could further investigate this? You may provide them using the reply privately to author option.

We have the same issues at our side. Frequent timeout errors. Same API version.

Hi all,
I have the same problem too.

since 2019/03/06 i get: .ReportException: Problem sending data to report download server and SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out.

Help Please.

Hi Carmine,

Could you ping adwords.google.com and share this IP address? We think this might be the issue at hand.
Are you possibly also connecting from AWS - and seeing these kind of issues?

@Igor: Could you please confirm if you're seeing the errors while using the API services or generating the reports? Could you please share the report definition or the API SOAP logs for us to troubleshoot this further?

@Carmine: Could you please share the Report definition which includes the timestamp, CID and data range so I can check this further?

Hi,

Igor, I looked into the failed requests in the logs you sent privately to us, and I do not see those requests actually making it to our servers. I do see plenty of requests from your developer token that succeeded, however.

Carmine, could you do the following?

1. Confirm if you are also using AWS.
2. Reply privately to author with logs that contain errors, or point me to the relevant lines in the logs you sent over earlier? I took a look at your logs, and I don't actually see any records of the errors in there.

Both Igor and Carmine, could you execute 'ping adwords.google.com' and share the IP address returned?

We have another system running elsewhere which does not have these issues.

The ipaddress of adwords.google.com is 74.125.193.100.

Hi Josh,

We see that yesterday ~ 17:00 CET all the timeouts resolved and the system is now working as usual. Did you figure out what caused this temporary blockage? What has changed?

Minor side note: the issue started at Wednesday ~ 17:00 CET.

Hi,

We did see a small window where this issue again arise but pretty quickly resolved itself again. We eventually did not move our software, but earlier tests did show us that moving from Ireland to Frankfurt would help.

For me this is a red flag: issue was visible for both Carmine and us whereas we both used AWS in Ireland.

Hope you still find the issue to resolve it.

Hi,

FWIW, we're seeing the same issue with other Google APIs (such as Sheets), also only in the AWS Ireland (eu-west-1) region. The root cause seems to be closely related—we noticed that *.googleapis.com would only resolve to a single IP address (always 74.125.193.95) from these hosts, whereas normally and in all other AWS regions we tested, these queries resolve to multiple addresses.

AWS support in our case pointed out the DNS discrepancy as most likely reason for the timeouts and reset connections—they didn't find anything on their end that might be the cause.

I've created an issue about this on Google's issue tracker, but haven't heard back so far.

Hi Josh,
look, I also invoke other endpoints and it works fine, but the data downloaded from the others endpoints is about 1MB instead AdWords report is about 90MB.
Besides that, even some AdWords report are about 1MB and it go slow.

Hi,
since Saturday it works fine and fast.
How I said probably the problem is AWS side, about routing table and routing protocol. Myabe they update the table.
But it's my opinion.
