Are Age and Gender Breakdowns available at the Ad and Video/Creative level?

Hi Adwords team!

Hope this is a super easy question for you guys:

I'm currently working on implementing AdWords reporting onto our platform and have most of the data pipeline set up. However I noticed that when making calls, I can't seem to find breakdowns/segmentations for things like Age and Gender at levels lower than the Ad Group level, i.e Ad level and Video/Creative level.

Going into your Native tool, I see when I select Campaign or Ad Group as my rows, the breakdowns like Age and Gender are still available to select as columns; however when I go lower into Ad and Video performance, those options are greyed out.

In your API documentation, I also noticed that in Gender Performance, and Age Range Performance, certain attributes are missing (eg. Ad Format, Creative ID) are missing, whereas in Clicks Performance Report I see that those attributes are there hinting that I can get reports for something like 'Clicks' on all levels, but breakdowns like Age and Gender, only at Ad Group and Campaign level.

My analysis is that I CANNOT breakdown my reports by Age and Gender at the Ad level or Creative level, but only at the Ad Group and Campaign level after my above research. I was hoping to do my due diligence and get a hard confirmation from the AdWords API team that this is true?

Let me know if I can provide any further information at all and thank you for your time!

Hi Arnab,

Regarding the Age Range and Gender entities, they are both at the criterion level and the reason why you can view their campaign and adgroup associations directly is because these criterion entities are created at either of campaign or adgroup levels using either the CampaignCriterionService or the AdGroupCriterionService respectively.

As for ads or creatives, it is currently not supported via the AdWords API wherein you would be able to associate which of these criteria triggered the said ads. So going back to your concern, the answer is yes, there is currently no way and no workaround as of this moment to achieve this association.

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Arnab,

My apologies for the confusion, upon checking again, the Ad Performance Report does in fact support the CriterionId and CriteriaType fields. These fields should allow you to identify which criteria triggered your ad. Let me know if this helps.

Hey Peter!

First off, so sorry for the late reply, I had "Email updates to me" unchecked so I never got the notification that I got such a timely answer!

Onto the matter at hand: I must have missed that! I see because I was approaching it by looking in Age/Gender Reports for Ad level attributes I missed it in the Ad Performance Report! I'll definitely pass this on to our engineering team and see what we can make happen! :D

Thank you for your time Peter! Will let you know if we managed to sort this out!

Best,
Arnab
