Amounts on API Campaign Performance Report vs Billing Detail

Hello - 

We are developing extracts via the API to assist our Finance team with reporting. We have noticed that the dollar amount shown in the Campaign Performance Report via the API is different for any given month for any given campaign/advertiser as compared to the billing detail.  Why would there be a variance between these two sources?
