How can I set user interests for an asset group while creating a Performance Max (Pmax) ad using the Google Ads API? I couldn't find the documentation. interest.png

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Ads API support team.

As stated in this guide, audience targeting is supported for Performance Max and Discovery campaigns. if you are using Discovery campaigns, can you try creating another AdGroup, this time set the use_audience_grouped to true upon creation of the AdGroup record. You may follow the steps in this guide for adding audience ad group criterion for Discovery campaigns. Discovery campaign uses AdGroupCriterion to target audiences.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any further queries.

Hi, thank you for your quick response. No, I am using PMAX ads (with assetGroup, not adGroup). I know about audience signals and I guess that I have to save the audience signal with 'Interests & detailed demographics' and then connect that audience signal with my asset group. But isn't there any way to just add interests without saving the audience, as I can do through the Google Ads dashboard?

Hi,

Could you please provide us with the uncropped screenshot of the Google Ads account where you've saved the audience signal with 'Interests & detailed demographics' and then connect that audience signal with your asset group?

My question is whether I can add user interests to the asset group WITHOUT adding an audience signal using the Google Ads API. I can do this via the Google Ads dashboard.

Here is a screenshot showing how I can do that on the dashboard. As you can see, I didn't create any audience signal and just added an interest (Real Estate)userinterestpng.png

Hi,

I would like to inform you that directly adding user interests to an asset group without audience signals is not possible as per the documentation of the Google Ads API. I will raise a request for this feature to become available in the Google Ads API. However, I cannot provide a scheduled timeline for its availability in the API. So, I would recommend that you follow our Blog Post and Release Notes for future updates.

Ok, thank you. And one last question. Is there a limit on Audience signals, or can I add the same signal to as many asset groups as I want?

Hi,

There is no limit on the audience signals that you can add to your asset groups. You can add the same signal to as many asset groups as you want. Hope this clear.
