GoogleAdsServiceClient not working (Java)

Hi,

I'm trying to create a Java servlet (with Maven framework). I've been looking at the GetCampaigns starter code, but I keep getting an error at the line

GoogleAdsServiceClient googleAdsServiceClient = googleAdsClient.getLatestVersion().createGoogleAdsServiceClient();

The error message is as such:

CAUSED BY:
java.lang.reflect.UndeclaredThrowableException

CAUSED BY:
java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException

CAUSED BY:
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: 'com.google.protobuf.Parser com.google.protobuf.MessageLite.getParserForType()'

Is it because I don't have protobuf as a dependency in my pom.xml file? I'm not sure what the error is.
