Hey All,

I have a question about creating a template ad using the API. I am using template 178, which is: In-video static image

I'm receiving the following error: SoapException: [AdError.USER_DOES_NOT_HAVE_ACCESS_TO_TEMPLATE @ operations[0].operand.ad.templateId; trigger:'178']

I'm using an AdWords test client account, and I've had success creating a Gmail Template ad. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Trevor

Hello Trevor,

It turned out that this template ID is already deprecated as it uses Flash.
There are some other IDs that were deprecated too. I'll update our documentations so people don't get confused.

Thanks gain for reaching out to us.

Best,
Thanet, AdWords API Team

Got it. Thanks!

Any suggestions on placing a Youtube ad via the API?

Hi Trevor,

Video Campaigns are currently supported in AdWords API Reports only at the moment. Have you considered In-stream video ad or Expandable video v. 1.0 listed in the template ads docs? If this will not match your use case, I am afraid that there may not be a means to manage the video ads using the API.

Thanks,
Sreelakshmi, AdWords API Team

Hi Sreelakshmi!

I see that video campaigns are not fully supported via the API. I am currently trying to place a static image banner ad on Youtube. If I place a standard imageAd, with a "http://youtube.com" as a placement adGroupCriterion, will this ad be able to serve as a banner ad on youtube?

Thanks again for your help,
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Using the API you should be able to create an Image Ad and set the placements as long as the campaign type is Display and not Video. You could check these guides about showing Display Network ads in videos and showing your Display Network ad on YouTube which explains the possible options that you are considering. However, to understand how the image ads will serve on YouTube, please post on the Advertisers community forum. The experts there should be able to comment on that.
