How can I create ResponsiveDisplayAd inside of smart shopping campaign via Google Ads API?

On Google Ads Manager I can create ResponsiveDisplayAd and add texts and images as below.

but I got INCOMPATIBLE_WITH_RESTRICTION_TYPE when I tried to create ResponsiveDIsplayAd via API.

How can I create ResponsiveDisplayAd inside of smart shopping campaign?

Hi Yoshie,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I would first start by asking if you have followed the steps as mentioned here for creating the Ad. Also we would need to see both screens as well as all the settings as it would appear that you have something setup that the ad is not able to work with, as shown here .

Yes, I know how to create responsiveDisplayAd. In fact, I have been creating a lot of responsiveDisplayAds under Display campaign via Google Ads API already.

My question is:

Is it possible to create responsiveDisplayAd under Smart Shopping Campaign?

And it seems like it is possible to create responsiveDisplayAd under Smart Shopping Campaign on UI but it is not supported on Google Ads API.

Could you please confirm?

Hi Yoshie,

I work with William and let me provide support to your concern.

Based on the Key section of this document, the responsive display ads can be added to standard Display campaigns and Smart Display campaigns using API. However, the smart shopping campaign is not mentioned so it is not possible also to create responsive display ads here using API.

Yet, so that our team can raise a feature request to my team for this, could you provide the document saying that it is possible to create this type of ad under smart shopping campaign? Also, you may try to create it manually and provide its ad Id and the campaign ID of the smart shopping campaign where it is created.

Please provide the requested details via Reply privately to author option.

To answer this question first, it is currently not possible to create responsive display ad under smart shopping campaign.
"So it is possible on UI but it is not supported via API, correct?"

The Responsive Display Ad that is inside a smart shopping campaign in the UI is equivalent to SHOPPING_SMART_AD in the API. As mentioned by my colleague William, there's a difference in labeling between the API and UI.
