Hello!

My team and I were reviewing this article recently posted about the migration of audience keywords to custom intent audiences (link: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/9069355), and we noticed that keywords will eventually be phased out as standalone targeting. Rather, it appears we would need to add keywords to custom intent audiences in order to use them (quote of the above article, "or define your own audience using keywords, URLs and apps."). Can you confirm if that is the case, and on a related note, what steps or guidance you have to allow our services to make the migration towards using keywords via custom intent as opposed to the current standalone implementation of keywords? We tried searching your API documentation but unfortunately could not find any mentions of this migration (or via scripts, as we currently build campaigns through this). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi David,

Yes, you are correct that you would need to add keywords to use custom intent audiences. You may refer to this link for more details about custom intent audiences. In the AdWords API perspective, you may use AdGroupCriterionService to add CriterionCustomIntent.

Let me know if you have further clarifications.

Thanks,
Luis
