Can I use the same trackingTemplateUrl for finalUrls with or without a query part ?

Hi everybody,

I handle an account with 2 types of finalUrls :
  1. http://www.actioncontrelafaim.org/
  2. http://www.actioncontrelafaim.org/fr/actualites/publications?field_type_pub_tid=All&field_expertise_nid=81&field_evenement_nid=All&field_mission_nid=All

The query part of the second url is used to display the right news on destination page. It's not a tracking data.

I have to add some tracking parameters, using trackingTemplateUrl

  1. {lpurl}?tracking=my_tracking... for the first finalUrl.
  2. {lpurl}&tracking=my_tracking... for the second one.

Because of this tiny difference, I can not set this trackingTemplateUrl at customer level :( I must set it at keyword or ad level according to the type of finalUrl ...

Is there a better solution like a miracle valueTrack that replaces the ampersand or question sign according to {lpurl} query part ?

Thanks

Kal

Hello,

As a possible workaround, you could change your first URL to http://www.actioncontrelafaim.org/?, and then only use the 2nd of your tracking template URL options. This will allow the same tracking template to be useful for both URLs.

Alternatively, if you don't like that solution, you could try splitting ads with different final URLs into different campaigns, and then setting the tracking template URL on the campaign.

Michael,

This is a big problem for us as well. Being an agency, we don't control what values our customers put into the final URLs, and we strongly prefer to add our tracking via tracking templates at the campaign or ad group level. Ideally, I'd love to see Google add logic when the tracking template is married with the final URL (and custom parameters) to correctly use either ? or &.

Thanks,
Hans
