Example for finding stats for a given keyword?

Specifically looking to provide a keyword, and retrieve the average monthlySearchVolume and cpc. 

It looks like I should be using either TargetingIdeaService or TrafficEstimatorService, and some searching indicates that I'm supposed to set some parameter to "STATS", but I haven't found where to do this. Do you have any examples showing this? Java would be great if so.

To clarify - ideal input is some keyword text, and output would be search volume and/or cpc, whatever's available within the necessary API.

You can use the TrafficEstimatorService for keyword traffic estimates. Check out our client library's code example for estimating keyword traffic in Java to get started.

Can you clarify whether Estimated Impressions per Day is the same as estimated search volume? Because I see that TargetingIdeaService allows you to get monthly search volumes for a keyword, but I haven't found an explicit option for search volume in TrafficEstimatorService.

Estimated Impressions per Day is not the same as estimated search volume. The TargetingIdeaService should be used to get search volume for a keyword. Check out this previous forum discussion for more information.
