Hi,

I've just submitted a request for a developer's token as a Individual Developer and I was wondering if this is the correct classification for my use case.

The background is that I work for a Market Research company (called Northstar) and not a advertisement agency so we use the keywords planner research/generate topics along with which locations/markets these are popular in.

Our company tracks Online, TV and Print campaigns and we use survey data, Google Trend and Google Analytics (when possible) to measure performance and provide insight on when and which locations our clients should focus on, which is them fed to ad agencies to build creatives and manage the campaigns for our clients.

However, we do not manage our client's Adword account but require the use of automating research on topics along with location research which currently takes us days to research on.

In addition, we have previously worked with Facebook in order to understand and model the impact across different media (cross pollination) using Facebook ads for one of our clients. Case study here : https://www.facebook.com/business/success/volvo

So would I be correct in requesting a token under a Individual Developer for this use case ?

Hello,

Thanks for providing the above details. The developer token indicate that your company is approved to use the AdWords API. When you apply for developer token, the compliance team will review the developer token application and approves it. Please check out developer token section of getting started guide.

Cheers,
Umesh, AdWords API Team.

I've tried twice and on both occasions the my application has been rejected. Given that we are going to use the tool internally (Individual advertiser or agency use only; no third-party access to tool (i.e., you're the only one that uses your tool)) I cannot understand why my application has been rejected and the answer I get for Google does help understand the road block in my application.

Tools that offer only keyword research are not allowed by the AdWords API Required Minimum Functionality.  Thus, we are not able to approve an API token for your stated use case. We recommend directing your clients to the Keyword Tool in the AdWords front-end for their keyword research needs

Has anyone else experienced this because I'm thinking to switch to Bing ? Less hassle because Google does not seem to offer advice and the stock answer does help me either ?

HI Umesh,

My application has been rejected for a second time and it is quite frustrating as this is really beginning to effect my business. The stock answer i get is  'Tools that offer only keyword research are not allowed by the AdWords API Required Minimum Functionality.  Thus, we are not able to approve an API token for your stated use case. We recommend directing your clients to the Keyword Tool in the AdWords front-end for their keyword research needs. '

We have tired on both cases to asked why but the stock answer is rubbish and really uninformative nor helpful and seems to be more difficult than services offered by Bing. Could someone please look into this because this is getting ridiculous !!!
