Seeing huge CPC numbers that don't reflect reality - Ads API (GenerateKeywordHistoricalMetricsRequest)

Hi,

I am using Historical Metrics to get volumes and CPC data, and I have noticed huge and largely invalid CPC numbers as of earlier today (Feb. 29, 2024).

I use the standard formulate for calculating average CPC:

average CPC = average_cpc_micros / 1000000

And I notice that I get the following values (for "en-US") over the last 12 months:

seo services for hire: 86006.889536,
dallas seo services: 71020.782557

... etc (see attached CSV for the detailed list)

Is something off with the GenerateKeywordHistoricalMetricsRequest API call?

By reviewing your query, I understand that you have noticed huge and largely invalid CPC numbers since February 29, 2024, for historical metrics. I would suggest you refer to the documents Generate Historical Metrics and Average cost-per-click to get more information.

I would like to inform you that we are not able to open the file that you have provided in the email thread. In order to debug your issue further, kindly provide us with the complete API logs in .txt format (request and response with request-id and request header) generated at your end along with the uncropped UI screenshot to assist you better.

If you are using a client library and haven't enabled the logging yet, I would request you to enable logging for the specific client library that you are using. You can refer to the guides Java, .Net, PHP, Python, Ruby or Perl to enable logging at your end. For REST interface requests, you can enable logging via the curl command by using the -i flag.

You can send the details via Reply privately to the author option, or direct private reply to this email.

Upon checking, I understand you have provided the logs but kindly note that request logs are not sufficient to investigate the issue so please provide the uncropped UI screenshot of the CPC and volume fields in the Google Ads API account and complete updated API logs (request and response with request-id and request header). 

Kindly note that only basic access and standard access tokens allow access to RecommendationService, KeywordPlanIdeaService, and KeywordPlanService. I would recommend you to check this documentation Access Levels and Permissible use for more information.

Upon further investigation, I realized that the CPC currency of my account is Canadian Dollar rather than USD 🤦‍♂️

I was reading through your docs and it seems that this setting can only be changed by an admin. Would you kindly update my account to USD?
