Setting or Retrieving Campaign Goal through Adwords API

Is there a way to read or set the campaign goal through Adwords API? Since I could able to set the goal as part of campaign creation through Google Adwords interface but wondering how to set or read the goal from the campaign

Hi GnanaPrakash,

Currently, campaign goals are not supported through the AdWords API. However, you can still implement your marketing strategies through the API by using the Remarketing, Bidding and/or Targeting.

Could you elaborate on what do you mean by "you want to create a Display Campaign using Conversion Goals"? This seems not possible in the AdWords API as the AdWords API does not support managing conversion goals. Also, you mentioned that you retrieved those conversion goals using the ConversionTrackerService. If you could provide the logs showing the conversion goal, please send to me via reply privately to author so I could further check.

Also, you might want to check this guide for more information about Tracking and Importing Conversions using the AdWords API.

Hi Vijaysinh,

I am a colleague of Luis, allow me to provide additional support for your concern.

If what you mean is to retrieve your conversion actions in your account, then you may use the ConversionTrackerService.get(). Once conversion tracking has been setup and conversion data to be available in reporting is enabled, conversion attributed to each click will be mapped to the appropriate entities (campaign, ad group etc, ). You can then segment the campaign level reports with conversion fields to see the data segmented by the conversion action/conversion tracker.

The goals choice in the UI is to help guide users through the campaign creation process by adding/removing relevant options, so it's unlikely that this will be added in the AdWords API.

However, if you are interested in monitoring specific goals, you can use the following API services:

Hi Silvia,

I am a colleague of Dannison's and will be responding on his behalf. A conversion event will be attributed to the campaign of the ad that produced the click that led to the conversion. This is not something you do manually.

If you are trying to optimize a campaign for specific conversion actions, you can set them in the campaign's selectiveOptimization setting.

Hello,

We want to automate creating display campaigns and it seems to be not practical without setting the goal (we only need 'website traffic' goal). 

I understand that setting campaign goal is not supported in API but it we still looking for a way to create campaigns via API.

As workaround - can we (or account manager) change out account so new campaigns will be always created with  'website traffic' goal instead of 'no goal'?

If no - where we can find out what we need to set in campaign via API to archive the same result as setting goal to  'website traffic' ? 

Is it technically  possible - everything related to setting goal to  'website traffic'  is available in API?

Hi Misha,

I am not aware of a default campaign goal setting in the UI. However, product support will have a better idea if this feature exists. 

The API does not support this sort of feature either. Are there specific attributes that you would like to set?

Also, if you can specify which API you are using, I can submit a feature request on your behalf.

Hello Matt,

it's bit confusing, sorry - after researching more I realized that setting a default goal in the UI (even if it was possible) will make no difference for creating campaigns using API and it will have no effect for any default attributes I may be missing.

Can you confirm that, since goal is UI level feature, the system will not treat campaign I create using API differently because "there is no goal"?

I believe that creating campaign using API (which set as default because setting of goal is currently not supported here) and UI with default goal must have the same behavior and how it works.

Is setting campaign goal (conversion goals) via API now available ? I am creating campaigns via API, but do not see an option to select the conversion/campaign goal, and it takes account default conversion/campaign goal.
