Hey guys! So I've been looking into what it takes to get access to the Adwords API and have just a couple questions to make sure I'm doing this right.

1. I'm assuming there is no mock/test data for the Adwords API. From what I've read, it appears that test accounts retrieve data from functioning production accounts, right?

2. If I apply for access to the API does the website need to pertain to the actual product? or can it just be our public-facing company site?

Sorry if this question is a pain, I'm just new to this whole process and want to make sure I'm not screwing it up.

Thanks!

Hi Tyler,
  1. Test accounts would not have your real production data. These accounts are only created to mock the API calls and test to see whether your logic is working. I would suggest you to add some dummy data into these Test Accounts to emulate your calls.
  2. It can just be your company's public-facing primary website to request access for AdWord API Token.

Thanks a lot, Veer! Just one more question:

concerning #1) Is there a provided mechanism with which to add dummy data into the Adwords test accounts?

Hi Tyler,

You can either add dummy data directly through the AdWords portal page like you would with your Production Account. But personally, I would use our API to do this on the go. For example: In Java, you can use our AdWords API sample app to push dummy data to your Test Account.
