Looking for clarification on setting the RequestPlatformTargeting.targetedRequestPlatforms field

The documentation for this field found in here states that empty values for this field mean that all request platforms will be targeted.

Can I correctly assume that empty values mean I pass an empty array to the field setter? Or should I not be setting the field at all? Or should I be passing a null value?
