Hi Google Ads Support team,

I want to be able to link a newly API created Google Ads account to link another manager account. I want my top level manager account to create the client account and add the sub-manager account to that created account; how do I do it? What I want to do is basically the add managers in the Google Ads UI where I can select one to be the Admin and the other not to be the Admin. Allowing multiple managers in the hierarchy to manage the newly created client account.

All I can find is
  1. Change manager of that newly created client account to another manager account that is within the hierarchy
  2. Invite a not related client account for one of my manager account, that is in the hierarchy, to manage
The best method is if I can just add a gmail to the newly created client account but I don't think this is possible via AdWords API.

Please Help.

Thanks,
Henry

Hi Henry,

You can start by linking your preferred sub manager account to your root manager account (you can refer to this link as to how). After having a root manager and sub manager account in your hierarchy, you can then link your newly created client account to your sub manager account. Kindly refer to the figure shown in here for guide in Google Ads account hierarchy.

Please let me know if you have further clarifications or if I misunderstood your concern.

Best regards,
Luis

Hi Luis,

How do I create a link via AdWords API to link an account created by my root manager account to a sub manager account? I tried the extending invitation sample but it does not seem to work because it says the MANAGER_ID can be any manager within the hierarchy but the CLIENT_CID is not managed by an account in the hierarchy. The AdWords API key that I use is from the root manager account, so when I make the call I get ALREADY_MANAGED_IN_HIERARCHY error; how do I make this work?

Best Regards,
Thanks

Hi Henry,

In your scenario of having created the client account under your root manager account making it the immediate manager, you may use the ManagedCustomerService.mutateManager() instead. Given that you already have a root manager and a sub manager in your hierarchy and while logged in as a root manager, you can use the ManagedCustomerService.mutateManager() to move your client account from your root manager account to your sub manager account (see example as to how).

If this does not solve your problem, let me know.

Best regards,
Luis
