Hello,

I was wondering if was possible to create a custom AdWords API that did the following:  do not display/trigger ads unless certain keywords are in the user search query.  This I would call “positive negative keywords”, i.e. if the term “help” did not appear in the query, then do not trigger my ads.  Hope I’m not “out in left field here”.

Thank you,

Bob

Hi Bob,

When creating a keyword, you should consider making its match type a Phrase. That way, your ad will only appear if the phrase was included in the search term.

Please have a look at this link on Keyword Match Types.

Hi Anthony,

I am in  the mortgage vertical and a very long time Adwords user.  I only want ads to show up if "refi" or "remor" are in the search phrase, i.e. "refinance", "remortgage", "refinance my house", "remortgage my home", etc.  I do not want ads showing up for "purchase a house", "purchase mortgage", "buy a new home", etc.  I only want "refinance" and "remortgage" leads, not "purchase" leads.  I thought maybe Adwords API might be able to accomplish this?  Would you kindly steer me in the right direction, or let me know unequivocally that it's not possible?

Thank you,

Hello Bob,

Unfortunately, I do not think this is possible with AdWords or AdWords API. You will need to add each of the keywords. As a workaround, you could add "purchase" as one of your negative keywords.
