Customer Match API and audience syncing

Hello all,

When uploading audience via the Customer Match API (Google Ads API), can we opt to sync to an existing audience, or does a new audience need to be created via API?

I think it's possible but I would like to get confirmation as well as any indication on how to do it in the API.
