Hi Guys,

So we have read this rule found on this page  https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/first-call/dev-token

1developer token = 1 manager account = 1 google project

and the only solution is to create a new project, generate new credentials and generate refresh tokens from there.

Our problem is that maybe our devtoken is not aligned to our manager account or google project. There is no way to find it currently. we have this issue

authorization_error: Developer token is not allowed with project XXXXXXX

Since we don't want to misalign our devtoken and our current google project is using the old version google adwords api. One question is does the rule above apply on google adwords api?

Another one is if we remove the manager account or google project would it break the linkage? so that we could re-align it to the correct manager account or google project

Thank you so much.

Best Regards,
Hasmer

Hello Hasmer,

Thank you for reaching out to us. This is Mark and allow me to provide an answer to your questions below.

  1. Since we don't want to misalign our devtoken and our current google project is using the old version google adwords api. One question is does the rule above apply on google adwords api? -> The rule stated on this guide is only applicable to Google Ads API.
  2. Another one is if we remove the manager account or google project would it break the linkage? so that we could re-align it to the correct manager account or google project -> Could you further elaborate/share a scenario to this question so we can better provide our insight?

In relation to your 1st question, you can also check on this Carryover Concepts from the AdWords API guide.

adwords works just fine in our current version and we would like to upgrade to the google ads but putting those same credentials in the ads config file give us the project error Developer token is not allowed with project XXXXXXX.

We cant break production while migrating but want to use the same credentials and granted access levels.

We currently don't know what project is tied to our current developer token and why its producing this error when it works perfectly in google adwords.

Please help.

Hi Hasmer,

Thank you for providing more details on your issue. I work with Mark and allow me to assist you.

From the API's perspective, the solution to the authorization_error: Developer token is not allowed with project XXXXXXX error would be to regenerate a new Cloud Project and credentials as stated in the guide.

However, if you wish to first learn more on the association of your current Cloud Project and credentials, then I would recommend that you reach out instead to the Google API Console support team, via this link, for further insight and guidance. I hope this helps.
