Dear All,

We have some processes based on .NET libraries thath evry day collect data from AdWords.

Starting from yesteraday every porcess fails wih the exception

Google.Api.Ads.Common.Lib.AdsOAuthException : Failed to get access token for service account.
{
  "error" : "unauthorized_client",
  "error_description" : "Unauthorized client or scope in request."
}

Nothing is changed on the account setup, neither for service account keys end so on.

What could be the issue? Any help will be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Miniera

Hello,

There is the possibility that the refresh token you're using has had its access revoked. Have you checked by logging into the Google account that issued the refresh token and going to your Connected apps & sites section on your security page to see if your app is listed?

You can also try generating and using a new refresh token.

Please let me know if these steps do not help, and I will investigate if something changed on our end.

Hi

since yesterday we have worked with service account authtentication.
Is something happened to your rules? I have seen forum mention  google business domain account, is this true?

Thanks
Miniera

Hello,

Do you mean that you just started using service accounts yesterday? If so, have you tried to go back to your old authentication method? If this is your first time setting up API access, please note that it is recommended not to use service accounts; rather, you should use the OAuth 2.0 installed application flow.

I want to make sure that nothing changed on your end before I start investigating to see if something changed on our side.

we are used work with service account since september 2015 without any google business account.

Yesterday we received the above mentioned message, we are still using same certificate, password and other auth parmeters.

Is there any issue with the account? Or maybe I am forgotting somethoning obvious.

What's your opinion?

I'm not able to help, but I have the exact same error in the DFP API client since yesterday. This leads me to believe there is an problem in the Google.Ads.Common library (home of the OAuth2 classes), or a more fundamental problem in the API service. I've tried making a new service account and regenerating certificates, but nothing helps. Please let me know if you figure out the problem.

Kind regards,
Johannes

Hello,

Since we've had various reports of this, I'll bring it to the attention of our engineering team to see if something changed on our side that could be causing this issue. In the meanwhile, if any of you could please let me know the CID of the account that you are authenticating as, this will help us quite a bit.

I will post back here when I hear something.

Regards,
Mike, AdWords API Team

Hello,

I have some other followup questions from our engineering team. Please provide as much detail as possible to help us identify the issue. You can respond to me privately by using the drop-down arrow at the top-right of my post and choosing "Reply privately to author."

To help debug this issue:
1. Are you trying to use domain-wide delegation?
2. Have you ever been sent to an authorization endpoint where you consented to your client accessing that user's resources offline?
3. Please provide sample requests that result in that specific error.
4. Please provide your OAuth Client ID and service account email for the failing request.

Regards,
Mike, AdWords API Team
