Hi,

I'm new to AdWords and I found the bidlandscape functionality very helpful. I have several basic questions,

- What does the promoted impressions in the API mean? Does that equal to the estimated top impressions shown in the UI or it's something else?
- Why in AdGroup Bidlandscape API there is a landscapeCurrent filter? What's the purpose of this field? Is that to include the current actual bid point in the returned result?
- Why there is start and end date in the API? Is there any constraints to the values?
- I tried in the UI and found i can't get an arbitrary bid point's value if the point is not among the ones already in the chart. So I have no way to get the impession, click, etc from an arbitrary point?

Thanks,
CY

Hi CY,

1) Yes, promoted impression refers to the UI "Est. top impressions"
2) It is whether the landscape points are considered current, if the calculated landscape points are not current we don't recommend applying them to the account.
3) The simulation has a date range for which is was calculated, these dates signify that range.
4) Sorry but I don't quite understand the question, is this a UI question?

Best,

Thanks David for your response. Some follow-up questions,

1. Why would the landscape points not considered as current, I thought the simulation is based on last 7 days results which should be fairly close?
2. Let me clarify my 4th question - is there a way to get an estimation (impression, click, cost) for an arbitrary bid value (beond the 7 points we will get from the landscape API)?
3. When I specify AdGroupBidLandscape.Type as DEFAULT (Signifies that the criterion bids override the default bid), will that return me the landscape including the specific custom bid setting keywords together with the ad group level default bid keywords results? Or only the results for the keywords on ad group default bid?
4. In the UI, I can get a current performance point, that's not included in the bid landscape API?

Execution of simulations can fall behind, therefore not represent that last 7 days.

Not at this moment.

The latter.

No, what you get in the UI you should also get in the API.

Thanks David for your input again.

Couple more questions,
- How can I tell which point is the current performance point in the API returned result? I don't see an indication for that specific point.
- Is the current performance point a simulated result or it's the actual performance the keyword is getting so far? What if I've changed the bid several times in the past, will the current performance point giving me the latest bid while returning the actual performance which is based on several bids?
- The returned impression/click number is the aggregated value for the time period, right?

Thanks,
CY

Hi,

1) None of the points returned by the service refer to the current. The current bid and stats you obtain via reports.
2) The current performance point in the UI is not simulated.
3) Yes, these are aggregates of the time period.\
4) Not 100% sure what your question is about batching. But you can leverage the Selector of the service to request landscapes for set of criteria, not sure if this answers your question.

- David

Thanks David.

My 4th question is about if there is an lightweight API call to just get the bid landscape availability (as opposed to the bid landscape results) of a list of keywords or ad groups. Since bid landscape is not always available for each keyword or bid landscape, one way I can do is to do the retrieval of the bid landscape and judging from the returned value. But I'm afraid that might be somewhat a heavy call. Thus I'm checking if there is an API just to get the availability as opposed to the real bid landscape data. In that case I can render the chart icon for bid landscape in the UI faster.

One more question, if the current point is from reporting (not from bid landscape), would you recommend not to connect the current performance point with the points returned bid landscape? As bid landscape is refreshed daily, while current performance may change from time to time, the curve may look weird if we connect them in one line?

Hi,

No, there is no more lightweight API. But calling the DataService is not really a heavy call, at least in our side.

I can't give you an specific recommendation, but I can tell you that we also don't connect the current point in the AdWords UI with the graph.

Best,

- David

- Why there is start and end date in the API? Is there any constraints to the values?

Can you dynamically set the date range?

Hi Kanan,

Are you still wondering what the solution to this question is? If so, could you please create a new thread with the question, so that we can answer accordingly.

Thanks,
