Create Google Ads Test Account related to a Google Ads Manager Test Account

Hello,

I have managed to connect to the Google Ads API and I would like to test the different methods before implementing it to our production account.

I would like to create Google Ads campaigns in a Google Ads test account to test uploading of conversions.

For now, I do have a Google Ads Manager test account, but I cannot create a Google Ads test account related to it because I always get this error message when trying to do so:

Would you know why? How can I create a Google Ads test account to create campaigns to test Google Ads Api possibilities?

Thanks for reaching out. Your test customer account is actually already created. The test manager account by default is in closed status. If you click on the down arrow next to the test manager account number and on the drop-down list click on the three dots icon and select cancelled accounts. Then click on the Accounts tab on the left hand side you would be able to see all the test customer accounts including the one you just created under this test manager account. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

In the Preferences of the account, I get this about the Account status:

Should I ask for a new test account (manager account or google ads account? with new developer token?) - or is there a simpler way to get a functioning Google Ads test account?

Hi Rich,

Thanks for reaching out. As I said, your test customer account is possibly already created. The test manager account by default is in closed status. If you follow the steps I mentioned before to click on the down arrow next to the test manager account number and on the drop-down list click on the three dots icon and tick cancelled accounts and hidden accounts. And then you can click on the Accounts tab to check whether you successfully created the test account. If it doesn’t work, please follow steps in this guide to create the test manager account and test customer account.

Hi, 

I have the same issue.

my goal is to create a test environment to check Google Ads API Beta and Google App Conversion Tracking and Remarketing API. Following online documentation I created a test manager account and I cannot create a new Google Ads test account. After the successful login of test manager account (I see the red box 'Test Account'), I select Accounts/Management/Create New Account, fill the form and when I click 'Save and Continue' I get the message 'Billing setups can not be used based on current status of the customer.'.

Can you please advice?

I would like to have a test Google Ads account in order to create/manage test campaigns in conjunction with test api call to Google Ads API Beta and  and Google App Conversion Tracking and Remarketing API.

Following these steps from the guide you suggested:

1. Go to the Google Ads manager accounts page and create a test manager account.
2. Use the Google Ads UI to create a test client account under the test manager account you created above. While logged in to Google Ads as your test manager account, any client accounts you create will automatically be test accounts.

leads to the creation of a normal Google Ads account, not a test one.

Actually leads to a normal account with note 'Setup in progress' which stays forever.

Thanks for reaching out. If you have successfully created the test manager account, all the test customer accounts you created afterwards within this account would be test accounts instead of the production accounts. You could verify the status of the test customer account by looking at the upper right corner red box marked as “Test account”. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Before I posted, I already tried everything that you said.

If I include hidden and cancelled accounts the list is still empty.

The guide that you linked to was the guide I was already using.

I can create the test manager account but when I got to create the test client account, it shows the error and remains on the create account step showing the error below the Save and Continue button - it does not proceed any further and the only way out is to click the Cancel button.

Same issue. We have successfully created an MCC test account but no "test accounts" are accessible. They are also impossible to create tests accounts.

It seems like currently there is an issue with the Google Ads UI when creating the test account under the test manager account. You could sign in your manager account and navigate to ? -> Get help to contact the product team about the issue with the Google Ads UI.  However, you would be able to create the test account by making an API call. You could refer to this code example on how to create an account under manager account.

I'm trying to create an account through the API and I'm getting the error   googleads.errors.GoogleAdsServerFault: [AuthenticationError.CLIENT_CUSTOMER_ID_IS_REQUIRED @ ; trigger:'<null>']

According to this error, it seems that a client customer id is required; this doesn't make any sense to me, if I'm creating a new account, why do I need the id? Am I doing something wrong?

I am also receiving the same error when trying to create a client account under the test environment MCC.

 When attempting to create a new test account, the account is set as a MCC instead of individual account.

Thank you for reaching out to us. I see that you want to create a new test account that isn't a manager account in the UI. You are able to achieve this by logging into your test manager account and then clicking the "accounts" tab, and then clicking the "+" symbol > "Create New Account", and you should be able to create a new, non-manager test account.

Otherwise, you can use the AddAccount.java example to create a new account underneath your manager account. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you for reaching out. This is a known issue manually creating a new test customer account in the Google Ads UI. As this is UI related issues, you could login into your test manager account and navigate to ? -> Get help to reach out to the product team to have the issue resolved. However, there is a workaround to solve this problem by creating the test customer account using APIs. If you are using Adwords API, you could refer to this code example to create the test account. If you are using Google Ads API, you could refer to this code example. Please let me know if you have any further concerns.

need to setup client id, client secret, refresh token and developer token.

We can set the environment variables instead of configuring yaml file. And call load_from_env to create client(replace this line https://github.com/googleads/google-ads-python/blob/master/examples/account_management/create_customer.py#L69)

if your customer ID is "123-456-7890", can run the script with this command:

python3 create_customer.py -m 1234567890

In my opinion, it should be a live issue. And it's unbelievable that google not fix it for several months.

Some of you may have noticed that we have unblocked folks from creating the test accounts from the UI. You may get a message at the end saying "There is no billing setup or you are not authorized to perform any operations in billing page...." However, the account will be created, and you will get an email that it was created. Please give it a try.

Moreover, I can run the get_campaign.py to get my campaign under test account well. However, the test account and the campaign did not show on the dashboard. I took a look at your account, and I can see that your test campaign is there. Since your test campaign does not have metrics, it does not show up in the Overview. That is expected for test accounts because test accounts do not have metrics. If you click on the Campaigns tab, you'll see that your campaign is there even though your metrics like impressions and clicks are zero. Congratulations! You did successfully create your first campaign in your test account.

You can achieve this by clicking your account number in the top left hand corner as shown here:



The three dots are shown right next to your manager account name, and will have a check box you can tick that says "show cancelled accounts".

• Complete request and response logs with request ID generated on your end for Google Ads API
• If AdWords API, you can provide instead the complete SOAP request and response logs

When I look in Sub-account setting, even with Hidden and Cancelled accounts displayed, there is nothing.  Please unblock me from creating a test client account.

Hi Martin,

You can create test client account under test manager account by running ../examples/AccountManagement/CreateCustomer.php from cli. You need to  make changes in runExample() method for `currency_code` and 'time_zone` as per your requirement.

Thanks for your response.  I still have some questions:

Can I just upload CreateCustomer.php to the webserver that I want to run it from?

I have also just uploaded google-ads-php-10.1.0 onto my webserver.  So, should I change __DIR__ in CreateCustomer.php to navigate to the  google-ads-php-10.1.0 folder?

Apart from __DIR__ I need to update MANAGER_CUSTOMER_ID, descriptive_name, and as you say currency_code and time_zone.  Is there anything else?

I also gotta ask, why has Google not fixed the bug in creating a Test Client account for over a year?  It's very frustrating looking for help/instruction on how to get set up, and most of the information refers to Adwords not Google Ads.  The only reason I want to set up a test account, like everyone here, is to be gain experience with using the api.  In my case, the only reason I want to use the api is to upload offline conversion events.

Sorry for venting a litlle - I guess this is Google's way of making sure I really want to use the api.

As for the "Billing setups can not be used based on current status of the customer." error in the UI, we are still discussing this issue. We will provide updates here if I receive some from the team. The workaround for now is to create it using API as also suggested on one of the comment here.

Moving forward to your question about PHP client library, I would suggest referring to this document as it explained how to configure this client library. Also, you may check this document to know what fields you need to supply for creating client account.

We've just received feedback from our team.

Moving forward, you may create your test client accounts using the API instead. An example on how to create accounts can be found here. Simply authenticate as a user associated to your test MCC/manager account and use the test MCC/manager's account ID as the managerId in the example.
