Is there any way to exclude placements for UACs programmatically?

Hi all,

see title. As far as I know, the only way right now to exclude placements in Universal App Campaigns is to use the "Account placement exclusions" feature of the web interface, which is not accessible over the API.

This problem will become acute in October, when all other app install campaigns will be sunset and only UACs will be supported going forward (see https://adwords.googleblog.com/2017/08/propel-your-mobile-app-growth-with.html).

As our agency has quite a number of clients that are very sensitive to brand safety issues, having an automated system to synchronize negative placements across all our accounts is very important for us.

Does anyone have any other solution how to exclude placements on an MCC-wide scale (i.e. hundreds of accounts) that includes Universal App Campaigns?

Hi Dorian, 

Are you talking about the placement exclusion options listed here? As you observed, its not possible to exclude placements for Universal App Campaigns at the moment. This is true for the AdWords UI as well. You can keep an eye on our blog for any updates or announcements on any new features.

thanks for your reply. It is indeed possible in the Adwords UI, using the "Account placement exclusions" feature (see attached screenshot). 

As mentioned, it's of utmost importance to us that we can manage agency-wide placement exclusion lists efficiently. Our clients are very averse to seeing their brand on controversial websites.

If there's any way to expedite the addition of this feature in the API, please do let me know.

Just an update in case you still are looking for this solution and for everyone who is reading this thread. 

With the October 2017 update Google introduced the functionality to programmatically exclude placements on account level: https://ads-developers.googleblog.com/2017/10/announcing-v201710-of-adwords-api.html
