Hi
I have two major problems with using the ADNI database:

1. I want to extract the status of the collection subjects - TBM Jacobian Maps MDT-SC (817) - for the third year from the ADNIMERGE.csv file, but this information was not available for all subjects. While some articles were used from the status of these subjects after three years in their researches. Where can I find this subjects status after 3 years?

2. How can I find pre-processed original images of the subjects in this collection?

Hi there,

I’m not all that familiar with this collection, other than it appears to be the ADNI-1 screening scans. Not all individuals were followed for 3 years (some by design, since AD participants were only followed for 2 years in ADNI-1, and some because they dropped out/died/were lost to follow-up), so you won’t be able to get the diagnosis for all of these individuals after 3 years. ADNIMERGE should have all of the available follow-up information for these individuals, so that’s probably the easiest place to find the diagnosis after 3 years (or last diagnosis).

There is a collection for the ADNI-1 screening 1.5T scans (there are more than 817 scans here because there are 2 different scaled versions of the scans for some people and both are included in the collection…there are actually scans for 818 people in this collection, I believe). You can refer to the following paper for some information about this collection:

Wyman BT, Harvey DJ, Crawford K, Bernstein MA, Carmichael O, Cole PE, Crane PK, DeCarli C, Fox NC, Gunter JL, Hill D, Killiany RJ, Pachai C, Schwarz AJ, Schuff N, Senjem ML, Suhy J, Thompson PM, Weiner M, Jack CR Jr.  Standardization of analysis sets for reporting results from ADNI MRI data.  Alzheimers and Dementia (2013);9:332-337. Thanks Danielle J Harvey...
Is it possible that a patient's state changes from AD to Normal? It can be seen in two cases but I have read before that it's not possible...! I want to know if it's a mistake in state validation or it could happen.

Hi Ehsan,

A change from AD to normal seems very unlikely. Do you have the specific RID (or PTID) for those cases, so I can look into it a little more?

Thanks,

Hi all,

We actually have quite a few of these. We call them "reversion" cases. I have a list of RIDs here. I can generate a list in a second. May I attach a list to this email chain?

Hi Mike,

Some reversions are definitely possible, though I’d be surprised by an AD to NL reversion (AD to MCI or MCI to NL might be more expected). We’d prefer data not be attached to emails through this Google Group, but you can include a few RIDs in the text of the email. Alternatively, you may email me directly with your list (djha...@ucdavis.edu), so that I can look into it more closely (that might not happen until later today as I’m in meetings all day!)

Sorry, I mean change from AD to MCI mode. for example subject 128_S_0167 only had AD state in baseline and in all the next visits, his state is MCI:

167 128_S_0167 bl 128 ADNI1 ADNI1 3/16/2006 AD Dementia 0 0 0 0
167 128_S_0167 m06 128 ADNI1 ADNI1 9/11/2006 AD MCI 0.490075 5.86885 6 6
167 128_S_0167 m12 128 ADNI1 ADNI1 5/16/2007 AD MCI 1.16632 13.9672 12 12
167 128_S_0167 m18 128 ADNI1 ADNI1 10/23/2007 AD 1.60438 19.2131 18 18
167 128_S_0167 m24 128 ADNI1 ADNI1 2/13/2009 AD MCI 2.91581 34.918 36 24

and the same condition for   033_S_0739:

033_S_0739 bl 33 ADNI1 ADNI1 7/31/2006 AD MCI 0 0 0 0 58:32.0

033_S_0739 m18 33 ADNI1 ADNI1 2/18/2008 AD 1.55236 18.5902 18 18 58:32.0

Hi Ehsan,

I had a chance to take a look at this in between meetings. RID 167 (128_S_0167) is a reversion from Dementia to MCI.

RID 739 (033_S_0739) was considered AD at the screening visit (which in ADNI-1 was the diagnosis that determined the visitation schedule), but during the baseline visit, a more complete evaluation was done and the individual was deemed to be MCI. In general, the Clinical Core has recommended the use of the diagnosis at the baseline visit as a more accurate diagnosis, since it is based on more information than was collected at the screen visit. So, this person, I would consider to be MCI at all visits.
