Welcome to ADKNordicSkating! Here Nordic skaters in the Adirondacks may inform each other about local conditions for outdoor skating. Ice conditions can change quickly and fast communication is essential. Our focus is northern NY, but we welcome posts about conditions in adjacent areas.

Wild ice skating can be dangerous. Ice that was safe a few hours ago may no longer be safe. Falls on ice can cause severe injury. Carry and become familiar with the use of safety equipment. Skate in groups. Ice reports found here do not imply or warrant that the ice described is safe for skating. We strongly suggest reading about ice quality and safety measures on Bob Dill's informative "Lake Ice" website at http://lakeice.squarespace.com.

When reporting, please use an informative title, for instance “Lower Saranac, 2/8". Reports should include ice thickness, ice type, hazards to avoid and other factual information including photos and gps tracks. Consider including a link to a Google map showing your access point. For discussion topics, a descriptive title is also helpful, e.g.: "About wet suits".
