Hi Pete and the gang. I've been using Virtual DJ with Pete's wonderful scripts for the last two months, with much success, and only just two days ago discovered the Google group, and the fact that we can access VdJ's settings through the MallMuzik app. Both are very welcome discoveries indeed.

I'm rather confused about the sampler. I'm using the latest version of Virtual DJ, despite it meaning needing to wrangle with OCR at times. I read a post on this group about using the sampler options in the MallMuzik app, but I can't work out how to get my bank to be seen by VDJ. I've put a folder with audio files in the sampler folder, and the MallMuzik app shows it, along with the recordings folder, and all my samples within that folder, which I can reorder and delete etc. I haven't created a MSP file, as I don't know what that is or how to do it? So yes, I'm very confused about how to get VDJ to see my samples. I notice loads of MSP   files in the OneDrive Repository, which I also just discovered today.

So, not to put too fine a point on it, what's the deal?

Thanks again Pete for all your hard work on the VDJ accessibility solution. Do let me know if there's a way I can donate to the cause? I haven't seen anything to that effect. Nice to join you all.

Hi David.

Welcome aboard to our little group of DJ misfits.

When you say you put files in the sample folder, do you mean imported them in to a sample bank using MallMuzik or copied the files direct in to the sampler folder in the VDJ folder?

if you  copied the files in to the sampler folder, you need to use the sample bank editor found in the sampler menu in MallMuzik instead. if you have already done it this way, accept my apologies fir the assumption.

when you open the sample editor in MallMuzik, you can press 'F1' for a list of keyboard shortcuts.

basically when you first open the editor  you can press 'N' to create a new sample bank, or 'O' to edit an existing sample bank.
for example
if you press 'N' it will ask you for the name for your new sample bank, once you enter a name, you will then have a blank list. now you can press 'A' to add a file to  the sample bank. you can add 'mp3, 'wav' ogg, flac etc. the best files to add are 'vdjsample' files, as these can be edited when pressing 'Enter' on the selected sample in the list.to set how they are used in VDJ such as looping in sync with your current playing track, and also allows use of stem swap modes etc.

so your best starting point is by opening the sample bank editor, found in the sample menu in MallMuzik, and pressing 'F1'
. the MSP files can be imported by using the 'import sample bank' menu option which is also found in     the sample menu.
likewise you can export a sample bank that you have created by using the 'export sample bank' menu option.

there are some sampler settings found in the vdj options, if you open the vdj options menu (which you look like you have already found), and press 'ALT+S' to filter those options (as there are a lot of them lol and type 'sample' to just show the options for sampler, these might help, if you have already created your sample bank as above, and are still not finding your sample bank when in VDJ.

Hopefully this will get you moving. let me know how it goes.
I'm sure you will have plenty of follow up questions, as there is a lot to get your head around at first LOL.so don;t hesitate to ask.

All the best.

Pete

Ah thanks so much for that, Pete. That works perfectly. I should have tried the “new sample bank” option in the MallMuzik Sample Editor, but instead I didn’t think of that, and chose to try the open option in the MallMuzik sample Editor. That showed me a folder of VDJSample files that I’d just added to the VDJ sampler folder, using Windows Explorer. For some reason, even though the sample editor for that bank I opened shows five samples, and I can reorder them, they didn’t show in the VDJ sample bank list when using control or alt 0. However the method of creating a new sample bank and adding wav or flac files in the way you outlined has worked wonderfully.

The folder I made contained VDJSample files, which were created by pressing on a pad in the recordings bank. But I couldn’t work out how to get the recordings to play, and so I thought I’d try just dragging those files from the recordings folder into a new bank, because I read somewhere about the recordings bank having a padlock on, or something. Anyway, the good news is I have samples working just grand, thanks.

Do let me know if there’s anyway I can help this remarkable effort. I did email VDJ support to let them know about the accessibility depreciation caused by drawing in menus, but I heard nothing back. But these scripts are absolutely brilliant.

I’ll have to continue to scour this forum further to pick up more tips, but I’ve just hooked up the Rane Four controller, and it’s great to have all the speech feedback when a button or pad is pressed or a nob is turned. Thanks very much. Speak soon.

glad you're up and running.

you will probably find that wav and flac files an only be triggered as one-shot samples. if you need to pitch and sync samples you will probably need to capture loops to the record bank, as these will be in VDJsample format. and then can be imported to your new bank and further edited to pitch and sync them.

i am not surprised you have not had any response from Atomix, Ive emailed them a few times over the years, without much success.

How are you finding that controller?, I don't really know much about that one. if you get hold of the custom mapper for it, You can customize your controller to make it more accessible. I know of users that have added for example the ability to announce the current bpm and key by pressing for example 'SHIFT + PFL'. also it is possible to use the quick pad page selector on the pads, to get access to all the pad pages. as most controllers by default only let you select from a couple of the pad pages such as Hot Cues, Loops, etc.. another option Ive also seen peeps quickly switch between the browser panels 'folder, songs, automix by holding SHIFT when turning the file browser knob etc. in sure there is much more that users have done. anyway, should keep you busy thinking about that.

anyway. have fun playing.

Hi Pete, thanks so much for your comprehensive reply. I now have sample banks working, using your method of recording in the recordings folder and adding them to an existing or new sample bank with the sample editor inside your app. And yes, pressing enter on those VDJSample files in that editor gives me the play mode options and stem stuff. Wonderful. I think the rane four lets me scroll through all the pads, and I get full speech feedback for pads and effects. It’s all very accessible, which is all thanks to you. I’ll check out those suggestions you made regarding custom mappings though, when I get a bit of time. Have you ever managed to get the per song sample bank doing anything? It may well prove easier to just set up my own per song sample banks in your app, but I wondered whether there was any way we could get those per song banks working, so that they load by default for each song, rather than having to manually scroll through custom made per song bank folders, if that makes any sense?

Thanks again for the brilliant work.
