This post was by a geography professor who is also a ham radio
operator. He encouraged one of his students to prepare some
"maps" related to ham radio activity as a student activity. Much
of the underlying mapping seems to be based on grid squares!
One map that will be of particular interest to this group shows
the number of ham operators by grid square. I have attached that
map to this document. This map gives some insight into just how
difficult earning the Fred Fish award is.

The map also makes it very clear why we have so few contacts with Southern Georgia in contests as Emil pointed out when he studied several years of logs.
