DSC Cooling Unit

All,

The unit has been repaired (replaced the dryer, capillary tubes, compressor, and filtered the oil) = $2,294.19.

To keep from another 5 month long/$2,000 repair we are going to be more meticulous about preparing samples than ever before.  That means if you don't crimp a pan properly then please throw it away and remake it.  If you are going to be running above 325 C for extended periods of time or multiple runs in a row, let the chiller relax between so as to not overdo the compressor.

David Delatte is going to help me re-install the unit and then I will calibrate it with Andy, who has been elected as the DICK (DIfferential scanning Calorimetry Koach).  I will be gone Monday-Wed, but everyone should respect the DSC usage time- don't sign up for multiple days in a row please.  Also, no other groups can run on our DSC until approved by Dr. Wiggins and trained by me or Andy.

Come see me to schedule time once we get it running, I will send out another e-mail when it is calibrated.

One would think TA would change the oil instead of filtering it after spending over $2K.
