Friends, we are about 2 months out from our 2022 meeting in Dalton.  I am including on this list persons who have been indicated as possible additions to our group, as well as those who have newly joined.  As matters stand now,  confirmed to attend members/friends include:

Larry Daniel
Sam Elliott
Richard McMurry
Dan Cone
Dave Powell
Michael Shaffer (Mike, hoping you are still recovering well)
Stewart Bennett
Tim Johnson (one of our new additions)
James McDonough
Wesley Moody
Tim Smith
Laurie Schiller

We are also pretty sure Dalton local Bob Jenkins will be there, also JD Fowler and Jim Ogden.

It appears that most of those who are coming will be staying at the Hampton Inn.    YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENTS AS TO LODGING.

We will make known the schedule and the anticipated restaurants in the coming weeks.

If the above list is incorrect, or if your plans have changed pro or con, please let us know.

Out topics have not been sorted out, but we expect James McDonough to lead a Sherman related discussion, and Richard McMurry to discuss his bromance with Joe Johnston.   There will likely be a discussion of teh Atlanta Campaign to about Cassville.  Also, as usual we will have our discussion as to the current state of Western Theater historiography.

Please keep me updated as to your plans.   The event will be richer if we can anticipate the participants.

By the way, if you see that we have omitted someone you know is coming, please let me know.

Sam Elliott

I will not be able to attend this year. I have a reunion of the brigade I was with in Viet Nam followed by the 55th reunion of my West Point class.  I cannot work in another one. Diane and I really enjoyed being at the last event.

After much deliberation, I regret to say I will not be able to join you this year in Dalton. I would love to see everyone and know that it will be a great meeting, but my schedule just will not permit it.
I hope to see everyone in 2023!

Yours,

Jim Woodrick

Dear Sam,
I hope that you received my message that Jeanne and I will not be able to attend this year. I am sorry to miss the meeting.  I just retired from the U. S. Grant Presidential Library, and am tied up with family and other commitments.  Please give my best to everyone.  We will miss seeing you all.  Let us know the plans for next year.

Sincerely,
John

This is to report a very pleasant meeting at Dalton this past weekend.  I am attaching our usual group picture.   We were joined by four (!) new members, including our local facilitator, Bob Jenkins, Gary Ecelbarger, Tim Johnson and Christopher Thrasher.   The discussion centered on the Atlanta Campaign and we enjoyed good fellowship.   A group visited the Resaca battlefield and some Dalton sites (I presume), as I was unable to attend on Saturday.

Next year’s meeting will be at Tupelo, and Stewart Bennett will facilitate, with a visit to Brice’s Crossroads anticipated.   PLEASE NOTE that we’re a week earlier than the last couple of years, May 18, 19 and 20, 2023.   We will back in touch with the group in a few months.

Sam and everyone,

Many thanks for sending me the picture of all the attendees at the annual meeting.  Great turnout.

As you know, I am having back and eye problems, but hopefully, next  year, thing will be better. Nothing serious, but I am not doing the traveling I normallydfo
