As a short report on our 2023 meeting at Baldwyn, Miss (HQ in Tupelo), we had our usual good discussion and fellowship, and enjoyed the arrangements made by our host, Stewart Bennett.   On Saturday, Stewart hosted a hardy few of us on a great tour of the Brice’s Crossroads battlefield.

The group present voted to go to New Orleans next year, but our executive committee will be considering the implications of departing from our set policy of going to Chattanooga every other year.   We will inform you in a few weeks once we have garnered all opinions.   If you have a thought on that, please e-mail me or Larry.

Western Historians, attached is the Final Agenda with all the information that you can conceivably hope to know about our upcoming meeting in 2 1/2 weeks.   We look forward to what appears to be a large and well-attended meeting in Tupelo.   If you have any last minute questions, direct them to our host, Stewart Bennett, whose e-mail is in the Agenda document.

Safe travels to Tupelo for those of you who will attend.

What a crew of outstanding historians in their fields!!  Or as Stewart might say, "Historians outstanding in the field."  Hated not be able to be with everyone.  May not make New Orleans, would possibly be able to be at Chattanooga.  Keep well friends, Brian

I am glad to hear this year’s site visit went so well.  I regret having to cancel a tthe last moment, however grandkids often take priority.  Regarding, next year I am open, however, I like the visits to Chattanooga.  That said, for the next trip west of Chatt,I suggest Baton Rouge and Port Hudson over NOLA. It was the loss of Post Hudson that really secured the River for the Federals.
