Pat,
Thanks for the shout out, it was a super night for cat racing, maybe best of the season.. 12-17 knots from ENE. North start, fish trap buoy, RR2, fish trap bouy, RR2, fish trap buoy, home. Shortish course for the breeze but perfect length with the waning daylight.
My little lady was hot to trot last night thanks to Pat's advice on upwind mast rotation. Getting me to change my long-held view on that didn't come easy.
It started with the GoPro videos of Ravi Parent that Andy shared a couple of weeks ago. There I noticed he set up with very little rotation upwind. Sure, he was sailing along at Mach 2 on foils but I figured similar technique could apply to a classic when overpowered and tried it. Holy moly.. My boat was on fire.
Before racing, I quiried Pat about his depowering technique because he usually pounds me in winder conditions. He confirmed that he sailed unwind with limited rotation so I decided to try it.
It was like another gear in my transmission.. Learn something new every day! Sometimes, I just gotta open my eyes (and mind).
We shoulda done another couple of laps!
