This morning I woke up reflecting on the life choices resulting in me not living in a tropical paradise. I thought, “Patrick you fool.” I watched the video of my 2 night Hobie wave camping trip and it reminded me there are seasons besides winter. Maybe it will help you do the same. Either way it’s 3 minutes of your life you’ll never get back.

I wonder if there is a hotel on the water with a long beach within 20 miles of us. We could do our own distance race, with an overnight.

I was talking with Will Rotgerring yesterday. I told him I might prefer El Paso to West River right about now. He replied that he'd come shovel my driveway and anyone else's who asked just to get out of there. On second thought, I realized that maybe I'm better off here..
We kicked around the idea of resurrecting a cat distance race weekend out of West River but one that starts and finishes in the same place. Steeplechase type racing along the lines of the New England 100.
He's stuck there for another year but maybe we can stir up enough interest to do something later this year.
Anyone?? Guessing it would be double handed boats only though.

It would be great to resurrect the John McLaughlin Memorial distance race - format is always open to wind levels but starts and finishes at the club. We already have the perpetual trophy with some prominent names affixed…….add yours this year!

If we do that, we could call it the annual, "find Sam's dagger board regatta" (sorry Sam, I couldn't resist!!)
For what it's worth, my thoughts were to mimic the NE100 event style. Setup a couple of courses with varying distances and angles (as much as can be done being in West River), and pick a course based on weather at the morning meetings. We could really mix things up by pulling a new course out of our.... "hats" every year on Sunday like NAASA does to make people scramble to learn it just before hitting the water, lol (JK).
Sam and I have been talking about this for a while, hope that I'll be there to help make it happen!
Jahn is right though. I'd trade the snow for the dust (mixed with snow on Sunday) for here!!
