Dear Friends:

Is anyone in our group riding or trying one of the new 3D printed saddles? I'm reading a lot about them (Fizik and Specialized, especially), especially for older endurance riders like us with declining power output. I also know folks like you experiment with different saddles, and I tend to change saddles every 5-8 years to differences in body composition and riding style. At age 65, I'm getting to that point again.

I realize these are expensive, but if it solves saddle sore problems and allows for higher mileage, it's worth it. The open, honey-combed, style appears on the surface as a potential solution. But of course you never know until you ride one 100+ miles.

Tom, 

I have no experience with them. I asked a local bike shop if they had a Specialized that I could try before I buy, and they said "No Thanks”.

There are some China knockoffs at a much better price point, and I know Rob has tried those. 

I’ve been using the same saddle for decades, and just replace it once a year, and hope they don’t discontinue it any time soon. 

I’ve tried several others, but none work as good for long miles. 

I’m interested to hear your analysis, if you do buy one. 

At my age, I need to give my enlarged prostate some relief ;=) but at this point I’ve not found a saddle with a cut out that works for me.

I’ve been using the fizik Aliante on my Rando bike for about 2 years. I was thinking of doing the one to one program where they map your pressure point and make a custom saddle to match but went with the off the shelf version as a test.  Works so well I never got the custom. 

I used the Brooks C17 Cambium for years before switching and would have pain on rides over 8 hours.  I can’t remember the last time I had pain on a ride since switching and I’ve never had saddle soar with it. 

I also have the race version on my indoor trainer and it works great. I would match the saddle to the bike setup. It makes a difference. I swapped them as a test last year and put them back right away. 

Also, my local bike shop has one of the pressure pads that allows you to measure the distance between your sit bones. Which is also helpful for picking the right width. I matched the length to the C17 I was riding when I order the Aliente.

As Dan mentioned, I use a Chinese 3D printed saddle, similar to but not a knock-off of a Specialized saddle.  It's a Ryet Ultimate, you can see it here.  It's the X6 3D saddle.  It gets near universal praise in Youtube reviews and I have them on two bikes with about 10,000 miles total on the two saddles.  They're not for everyone, but I really like them, by far the most comfortable saddle I've used.  They are all carbon, including the base and weigh just 165g.  I'm over 200lbs and have had zero problems with them, they have hardly any wear and despite having a 7x9mm rail it works fine on my generic alloy seatpost with a two bolt clamp.  Some people report that they wear through shorts and bibs pretty quickly but that has not been my experience.  I find the honeycomb printing is the right blend of soft and hard support and have a generous cut-out.  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I was introduced to Infinity Saddle, few years ago and I found it the best saddle

I have ever used & at this point, I never go back to anything else ,although it is pricey and

their warranty is not too great. I used this saddle on a 1200km pre-ride for the 1st time since for

me everything must work in 1000km plus events :-) I just rode a 1000km and 4 days later 1200km

and I had no saddle sore or anything close to saddle problem. I am also NOT using/buying or applying

chamois cream any more so yes, the saddle is expensive but I save money in other area.

I'm currently riding a SuperTeam ( this one:

 It is firmer than I expected but still my second most comfortable saddle behind my Brooks C15 Cambium carved.

Overall I have roughly 100 miles on it and am happy with the comfort/performance. 

SuperTeam offer several others as well that are all fairly reasonably priced.
