Come join us May 3rd, 2025, in Canton, Texas, for a 200K ACP brevet, a 325K RUSA Brevet, and a 400k ACP Brevet.
These are George Evans' Fleas and Trees routes.
They start in Canton and go east. The 200k turns back in Gilmer. The 325k continues to historic Jefferson. The 400k continues on to the Louisiana border.
The "Fleas" is from the First Monday Trade Days flea market in Canton. The "Trees" is from the unincorporated community of Trees just this side of the Louisiana border.
These routes are fairly hilly, especially between Mineola and Jefferson.
The 200k and 400k are ACP brevets, and count for certain medals and awards.
The 325k is a RUSA brevet. It does not count for certain medals and awards, but you do get extra time and mileage credit for the odd 25k distance.
Start time is 7:00 AM. We may adjust start times for the longer routes based on rider preference- let me know if you have a preference. The 7:00 AM is a daylight start.
Start location is the Walmart Supercenter, 603 TX 243, Canton, Texas. Park in the northeast corner of the parking lot out away from the store.
RUSA membership is required. See the RUSA website for details.
Lone Star Randonneurs membership is required. See the LSR website. Get the money and form into Dan some time prior to the ride.
Lights and reflective gear are required for the 325k and 400k distances and highly recommended for the 200k, just in case.
Waivers are attached. Please complete, print, sign, scan, and email the waivers to both me and to Dan, and then bring the original to the ride start.
If you're not sure which route, submit waivers for each.
The RideWithGPS routes are here- note these are different (and updated) from the ones on the LSR calendar- use these! Check back for any updates to them.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45752484In the past, the single biggest problem we've had hosting these routes has been weather, specifically rain or the threat thereof. So watch that forecast.
I don't recall how it came about, but the date of the ride happens to be the same weekend as First Monday Trade Days, which we try to avoid. This will put a little extra traffic on the roads right around Canton and will tend to make the motels full-up and/or overpriced. It generally hasn't affected the ride itself, but you may hit a little extra traffic driving in or out, etc. Speaking of motels, the ride start is a mile or two from the freeway, and the motels are all by the freeway, so there is not a motel right by the ride start.
I expect low turnout for this ride, but do plan to ride the 200k. I'll try to keep riders posted on who is interested in what so you can plan accordingly.
The long-range forecast shows low of 57, high of 80, partly cloudy, and 24% chance of rain. That forecast will probably switch 8 times before the ride, so check it just beforehand and be prepared for whatever it says. If memory serves me correctly, we have had people overheat coming back between Gilmer and Mineola, so watch the "high" end of that temperature, bring a Camelback plus bottles or whatever it takes to make it through there.
