Hello Randos,
Many of you have ridden my "Cool Waters" Perm and/or Sue Shields' "Clear Fork to East Fork Trinity Trails Scramble", two similar routes on the Fort Worth Trinity Trails and Benbrook Lake Park roads.
As you may have heard, the low-water crossing of Dutch Branch Creek on Lake Shore Dr (near Stevens Dr) will soon be closed for three months for repairs. This will make both of the above-mentioned Perms unrideable without detouring onto Hwy 377. To complicate matters further, the Benbrook Lake Park roads may be closed soon due to the government shutdown.
To circumvent these problems, I have created a new Permanent "Panther City Pedal" (#5693) on the Trinity Trails. I based the new route on Clear Fork to East Fork Trinity Trails Scramble, and moved the two turnaround controls. The new southwestern control is at the first picnic pavilion on Lake Shore Dr, which Benbrook City Engineer, Heath Haseloff, has assured me will remain accessible during the construction. The new northeastern turnaround control is at the intersection of Trammel Davis Rd and Grosbeak Ln in East Fort Worth. This utilizes some new paved trail east of Loop 820 (that has not previously been part of a Perm), combined with a short section through a quiet residential area.
At the request of the RUSA Permanents Committee, I have added two photo controls (outbound at mile 8.0, and inbound at mile 38.0) both where the trail goes under the Samuels Ave bridge.
Currently, there is construction on the route near the Northside Dr low-water crossing that requires a detour on the road bridge to cross the Trinity River. (The low-water crossing is closed.) I have prepared two maps for the detour. (The detour routes are different for outbound and inbound.) Here are the map links:
This new route is also approved as a Populaire, and may be added to the LSR calendar in the near future.
Please feel free to email me with any questions.
Best regards to all,
Jerry Austin
