Hi LSRs,

During our recent 200k ride on the Country Roads Ramble route, I got some ideas on how to improve the route. Rob and I had close call on the Joe Pool Lake bridge when a car passed me going 50 mph in the same lane, less than 1 ft from me with another car in the lane next to it. Also, there is a construction in Mansfield around Hwy 287 which required a temporary reroute which added about 2 miles and required us to cross Hwy 287 which is dangerous due to fast moving traffic.

I made several changes to the route and removed all the busy roads. I also added the recently completed bike path along FM 1347 / Beltline Rd which avoids Beltline Road crossing and a climb on Mountain Creek Parkway.

New updated route:
- Added the new bike path along FM 1382
- Removed busy road near Egan and the control in Egan.
- Rerouted last 20 miles to avoid construction around US 287 and a dangerous US 287 crossing.  Also removed the dangerous Joe Pool Lake bridge crossing due to fast-moving traffic and no shoulder / bike lane
- The new route is much safer and uses Lynn Creek bike trail and low traffic roads in last 20 miles.
- Alvarado control has moved from the Elementary school to Sunset grocery store which is a good resupply stop for the final 25 miles.
- To shorten the route to 125 miles / 200k, I rerouted the far east section of the route between Ovilla and Sardis and the section between Cleburne and Alvarado

The new route is here: ridewithgps.com/routes/51046938

Check it out and let me know your feedback. I plan to submit the reroute soon both as a brevet and a perm.

Take care,

Peter

Thanks so much, Peter !!!!!!

Route maintenance is so vital to keep our treasured routes safe, scenic and enjoyable.

As soon as you’ve got the Brevet approved, we’ll look at adding it to the calendar, maybe this month?

Looks really good, to me, Thank You,
DanD

Great work, Peter, there were a couple of anxious moments for me on the route when we were near the finish.  This should be much nicer, thanks.
