Hi Trailers,
Please be aware that our runs operate under strict COVID protocols even though now on level 1.
This week we will be starting from the Hout Bay Beach Car park opposite Chapman’s Peak Hotel. Hopefully this is not so full, so we can start at 6h15 am. We may still need torches for the run up the road
Route
From the car park, we run up the Chapman’s Peak Drive till we get to the start of East Fort route. We go up this path following the upper contour – with a potential detour to the manganese mines for those who haven’t seen them. At the junction with the Blackburn Ravine path/lower contour, we go up Blackburn Ravine to the Hout Bay lookout at the top. From the lookout we turn left up the single track that leads us to Constantiaberg Peak and the mast.
After tagging the peak (one of the 13 peaks), we make a short detour to visit Constantiaberg Cave (Elephant’s Bum cave) before retracing our steps down to the lookout and back down Blackburn ravine taking the lower contour this time.
Rendezvous and start time
Meet at Hout Bay beach car park ready to start running at 6:15am. Please arrive early for check-in and safety briefing. Remember to bring a torch for the run up the road.
Terrain & Distance
The route starts and ends with a bit of tar and jeep track but is mostly single track. It is not a long route distance-wise (+-12km) but it is around 900m up and 900m down.
There are turnaround points for those who don’t want to go the whole way:
If the weather is kind to us, it is really worth going to the top and the descent is a great run!
What to bring
Water, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information. Please bring a headlamp or torch for the first bit on the road as we will be running in the half-light.
As the first 6km is a climb, snacks are a good idea
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear. Constantiaberg and the lookout can be a whole different weather pattern!
Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.
