Police officer killed, another wounded in attack by gunman in Wau town

One police officer was killed and another wounded after an attack
carried out by an unknown gunman at Hai Kosti in Wau town on Saturday
morning, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, Mel Aleu Goc, Wau town mayor,
said a police officer was killed and another wounded in an attack by
an unidentified gunman at Kosti residential area.

He attributed the motive behind the incident to personal differences
between the perpetrator and the victim. The municipal official pointed
out that police authorities are still pursuing the perpetrator.

The mayor claimed that the security situation returned to normal in
Wau town after security measures taken by the municipality in
coordination with the state government, while describing some criminal
activities in residential areas as “isolated cases”.
