WAU, 17 July 2017 [Gurtong] – The move comes after renewed fighting in
the areas of Gogrial State intensified between the communities on
Saturday.
Residents have since deserted their homes in fear of attacks as other
groups launched heavy offensive against others in their villages over
the weekend.
Last Friday, the head of the civil society in Greater Bahr el Ghazal
region, Agoth Bol Agany announced that a peace conference dialogue is
set to take place on the 22nd of this month in Gogrial State that aims
at resolving the outstanding issues relating to conflict among the
communities in Gogiral State.
The civil society is currently organizing the peace conference and
will involve the four State Governors from the region including Wau,
Tonj, Gogrial and Awiel and it will be held in Wau town.
“I have to begin with our people of Bahr el Ghazal headed by Salva
Kiir Mayardit, the President of South Sudan to attend the peace
conference on 22nd in Gogrial between Apuk and Aguok,” he said.
“We as the civil society, we have set and have done what is supposed
to be done. Let me thank the three Governor headed by Gregory Deng
Kuac the Governor of Gogrial who delegated me to work for the peace
conference dialogue between the two communities,” said Bol.
In the first week of July, Governor Akech Tong Aleu of Tonj, Gregory
Deng Kuac and Andrea Mayar Acho of Wau met in Wau town to discuss ways
towards finding lasting solutions to the on- going insecurity at the
borders of the three States.
