The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization
has added voice to calls for investigation into the death of
Journalist Isaac Vuni.

In a statement, the Director of UNESCO, Irena Bokova, condemned the
Killing of Mr Vuni, who was a senior journalist of Juba Monitor daily
newspaper.

“It is important for society as a whole that the authorities
investigate and bring to trial those who resort to violence to muzzle
the media and deprive people of information they need,” Ms Bokova
stated.

According to family members, the body of Mr Vuni was found on a farm
in the village of Kerepi on September 26, 3 months after he was
kidnapped from his home by unidentified gunmen around June.

On 6 Oct, three media organizations called for investigations into the killing.

In a joint statement, the Association for Media Development, Union of
Journalist, and the National Editors Forum, said some of the
journalists killed were targeted for their work.

According to the groups, journalists have continued to face constant
harassment in the country.

The three organizations expressed concern about what they describe as
an alarming level of impunity for crimes against journalists.

They appealed to the government to bring the killers to justice and an
end harassment.
