Former official accuses Boma governor of misusing funds

A former official in South Sudan’s Boma State has accused the
incumbent governor of Boma Ismail Konyi of misusing public funds and
marginalizing certain communities in the state.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Ogebe Omot Ochan, the former
deputy mayor of Pibor town urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit to
grant the Anyuak tribe a state, saying a new state would reduce child
abductions and killings of innocent civilians commonly practiced by
Murle tribesmen from Pibor.

The former official also accused Konyi of marginalizing the Anyuak
tribe in power sharing positions by only granting them junior
positions. He further said that out of 7 appointed ministers only one
minister was appointed from the Anyuak community.

“Another crimes governor of Boma state did is taking salaries of two
months of entire state and used them for their conflict with Bor youth
while we were not party to that conflict. The governor sent this money
to the frontline for youth of Murle to buy war equipment,” he claimed.

"These accusations are not true at all, because the governor did not
take the two months salaries but the salaries were received in Juba
that time and people were informed about that,” Minister of Local
Government, Simon Gain said.

The official denied all accusations levelled against the governor of
Boma state. “Regarding the position of deputy being given to the
Anyuak tribe, that is because the positions are located according to
counties,” he said.
