Kiir says police must be armed to fight criminals

JUBA (16 Mar.)

South Sudan President Salva Kiir said the police in Juba should be armed in the quest to crackdown on criminals.

Kiir made these remarks on Tuesday at his office during a meeting with National Minister of Interior Michael Chiangjiek, Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs Tut Gatluak and other security officials. “You must be able to detect all the plans of the criminals, and the Police need to be provided with mobility so that they can move. You also need to provide additional arms to the police forces so that you are able to crackdown on the criminals,” said Kiir.

The call comes amidst a growing concern of high prevalence of criminal activities in the capital Juba.
